Playing the 360 version of the game, I get a lot of Stealing Success messages, but no message saying money or items received.  Anyone else getting this?  Was talking with a friend playing the PC version and he says he always gets a message.

i get the same i have to look in the inventory for a new item

So I am assuming this is a bug with the xbox version.

ive gotten money and items-



i think it might be that you can only steal a certain amount of times in a given area, the mark doesn't have any loot or you dont' notice it since its usually such a mundane item.



ive gotten money, and the "item added" or "money added" message comes up in the lower left corner.



not sure if there is a use limit or the target just doesn't have anything, or if its a bug that looks like a "use limit".



i'll have to mess around with this when i can.

Good question.  In one playthrough in Lothering I used Leliana to steal, and got a fair bit from refugees, but zip from templars.  I think it depends on if who you are stealing from has anything to steal.  I have seen "stealing success" but no money or items received.  Seems normal, but could be a bug for all I know.
