I bought Baldur's Gate 4 in 1 edition. Original Baldur's Gate works fine, but when I install Tales of the Sword Coast expansion, it won't run. It gives me a message about the game not being able to run on a non-English operating system. BUT I AM RUNNING WINDOWS IN ENGLISH!!! Posted Image It's U.S. English version of Windows Vista. I set my location to Serbia, because that's where I'm from. I tried changing it to the U.S. but the game still wouldn't work.

Any ideas? Thanks.

If I'm correct the issue gets solved by applying the official patch. Bioware doesn't house the patch anymore, but it can be found on http://www.sorcerers...index_misc.php. You need to get the TOTSC patch (NOT the DirectX patch, you don't need that).

BTW: If running BG on Vista, you can prevent other problems (not this one, but problems with finding your save games, moddifying the game if you want among others), by installing the game outside of the Program Files folder. Make a folder like C:\\Games\\Baldur's Gate or anything you like. As you didn't start a game yet, this is a good time to tell you this advice, I think.

Which version of the patch should I install - US, UK or International?

From where did you buy it?

I would try all three, if I were you. The problem here could be that you have a US version of Windows while the 4 in box games only were released in Europe, so they might not work on a US windows system.

I bought it here in Serbia. It's labelled PEGI 12 (PEGI stands for Pan European Game Information), so it's either the UK or the international version.
I installed the UK patch and it works Unusually though, the game prompts me to insert Disc 6 to play, even though it's a DVD edition, and what's even weirder is that it only starts when I insert the TotSC disc, which is a separate CD.
Anyway, what's important, it does work. Thanks for your help guys!

The expansion disc being called CD 6 is normal (a relic from the time the basic game was sold as a 5CD-set) and that's indeed the one you need to run the game. Everything is the way it should be, enjoy the game, glad we could help.

Ahhhhh! My mistake! I still have have the origional disks, thought there were six of them. It's some kind of "special edition", so the CDs are in a great-looking hard paper case with illustrations, something like The Lord of the Rings, Extended Edition. It's awesome, love that game.

Cheers guys!

I too am having this problem with the 4-in-1 set.

I've tried to run the disk from CD6, but it just tells me to put in CD1, and vice versa?!

This is becoming deeply irritating to try and figure out, is there are a workaround?

Edit: And no longer than two minutes after posting and trying the solution on this page again, it worked perfectly! Methinks the Gods of Irony delight in tormenting me?

:pinched::lol:

hi can anyone help with the correct settings to run the 4 in 1 set on windows 8?
i installed in the correct order and patched the up to date patches
BG I boots but runs horrendously slowly
BG II boots to the selection screen for BG or TOB, i select BGII and it asks for disk 2 (which of course i dont have) i stick in either the shadows of amn or tob disk and it just sits there hanging

gutted as i fancy a redo from scratch rather than buying the partial game on steam

:(

A few things to check:
- are you sure you've got the right patches - there are different versions for US and international games for instance?
- did you disable any other programmes running during installation that might interfere, e.g. browsers and virus checkers?
- did you install away from the Program Files location, e.g. to c:games\\bg?

Hi,

Not spot on topic but as close as I could find an existing thread on. I'm having trouble installing BG1 and TOSW on Windows 8 from the 4 in 1.

SoA and ToB install just fine, but the first 2 autorun with no problem, but as soon as I hit install it whirs for a moment, and then nothing happens. I've tried compatibility modes in just about every possible way, and run as and not as admin with each. Also tried running it with integrated graphics and with Nvidia card.

Anyone else got this problem? Or fixed it/have any ideas how to do so?

Any help much appreciated!

Nick.

Have you tried clicking the setup.exe on the cd rather than the autoinstall. If that fails try right-clicking it and run as administrator.

Also, remember to change the install location to somewhere like c:\\games\\... otherwise Windows will get all protective and interfere with save games and config files.

Hi Gate70,

Yeah tried running directly from setup.exe, and tried that in every compatibility mode with admin on and off.

I should point out that as well as the 4 in 1, I've also dug out my original 5 disc set and tried that. Exactly the same problem so it's not the disc!

Bugging me that nobody else seems to have the issue.

Will defo be changing the install location when I get that far so I can put the BGT mod on :D

Thanks.

You may have a problem due to other programmes running at the same time, e.g. virus checkers and plug-ins for browsers. Try re-starting your computer in safe mode and then see if you can install.

Great shout (how comes I didn't think of that?) Installed just fine now. Running it in non-safe mode gives me the message that it will only work in the US and Canada, but it was bought in UK and worked on XP and Vista before now with the same discs.

Will get the patches all in order and see where it goes from there. Think this might be a more common problem with the 4 in 1 seeing as that's why the thread started...

Edit - And there it is, all working and functioning properly (so far) with BGT. Thanks for all the help!
