I've officially released the NWN2 Mask of the Betrayer Makeover SoZ Edition.

If you enjoyed the OC Makeover SoZ Edition then you will probably also enjoy the MotB Makeover.  Like the OC Makeover the MotB Makeover requires NWN2, MotB, and SoZ installed in order to function.  It is also installed directly into the primary NWN2 MotB campaign folder, so backing up your MotB campaign folder before installation is REQUIRED.

The primary purpose of the Makeover is to provide some SoZ-like features in the MotB campaign, including the death system and crafting system and party editor, and to allow more control over the companions and storyline.  There are also some bug fixes, enhancements, and additional optional companions. Most of the features of the rest system, death system, and crafting system can be customized by editing two 2da files.

The Makeover does NOT introduce any adult content or additional romance options, so it should be appropriate for all ages (as appropriate as the original MotB is anyway).

The Makeover modifies the module scripts and the UI, so it is not fully compatible with modifications like Kaedrin's PrC pack that modifies the same scripts.

The Makeover should be fully compatible with MotB on the Macintosh as long as the game is patched to 1.23.

Feedback can be provided here or in the vault thread.  Please if you play do not publicly post spoilers. If you have questions that would contain spoilers please PM me instead of posting.

More specific information on the Makeover will be available on its vault page.

Regards

You, sir, are a credit to the Community. I have a pretty good idea just how much effort is required to undertake something such as this and I would never, EVER have gone there even if I could have.

Hat's off to you, Kaldor.

Thanks, dno. It took over a year, which surprised me. There were several factors against completing it - I don't like epic play, I had other projects to complete, not much feedback indicated not many likely players. But I felt that if it makes MotB more enjoyable for some people then it was worth the effort. It also gave me the opportunity to do something that I was unable to do in the OC Makeover. Hopefully it will get some play.

No boobs = no eguintir.

So have you addresses at all the easiness of combats in this makeover or was it more just the systems you put in?

I didn't make any changes to combat AI scripts, so it should be fully compatible with TonyK's AI. The makeover does implement rest restrictions and item level restrictions, which if used can make combat more difficult.  Of course these settings can be customized.

I'm literally sitting down to try MOTB for the first time after doing 90% odf the OC and 95% of SOZ. I would definitely prefer to play MOTB as I played SOZ... But your link leads toa page which insists that your modules is not approved... is there another link for this? I'd love to install it immediately.

well, i'm really new to the community. is bioware no longer making NWN? I've had the Gold2 for a while now and just received a Win7 laptop for Christmas. Can't get past the character create screen. Thot maybe there were compatibility patches to download but don't find any. Sigh. Any news you'all can share?

@HotDogBun: Hopefully it will be approved shortly. The features are similar to those in the OC Makeover. So to whet your appetite you might want to look at those.

@Graiyn: Welcome to NWN2. Your post indicates you are having a technical problem. I suggest you create a new thread ithe technical support section of the boards. The maker of NWN2 is Obsidian. Bioware just hosts the forums. You should be able to use the built-in update feature to apply patches. It is on the initial game menu.

I was thoroughly impressed with the Makeover of the OC, it exponentially increased my fun on NWN2.  I hope the MotB makeover does the same.  You are definately a treasure to this community.

I do have a question about the crafting system, though.  Will the MotB makeover feature non-SoZ-standard recipes and enhancements (like +4 and better weapons, +2d6 or better elemental damages, etc.) or will it only contain the recipes that were stock SoZ?

Thanks. The Makeover adds the SoZ standard crafting recipes to MotB. I'm looking into what effort it would take to create SoZ style recipes for MotB crafting/enchanting, but if I do it it will be released as an add-on later.  Crafting being a completely optional thing that some people don't ever do (myself included) I feel further possible enhancements to it don't justify holding up release.

I did create a +5 AC recipe last night and was successful at getting it to work with my crafting scripts with no 2DA modifications required, but that is just a first step. I do think it is a good idea though.  I'd like to see crafting physically dependent on recipes rather than dependent on knowledge of recipes. And I'd like to have crafting function independently of 2DA file entries so that people can release easy-to-use recipe packs with no 2DA merging required.

Well, I created 5 more party members, but when i add them tot he party they remain level 1. I am going to try restarting and adding them at the very beginning to see if that makes a difference, because I made them after I exited the start caverns.

adding them as soon as you start makes no difference

I never intended there to be an auto-level up feature for player created party members. I'm not enforcing a minimum level requirement. If you create new people then they will start out with no xp. I carried over the same people I played the OC Makeover with. If you do not have people you want to import then I suggest you use the console givexp command to give them the xp you want.

It is there. Something is blocking it. My guess is an overzealous security admin. I'm looking into it.

No, the vault link has changed.  That is odd. I'll update it.

Turns out the link was never correct. So how did 20 people download it before?

Anyway, it is working now.

Sorry about that.

I used the console command to level them accordingly. Having never played MOTB before I was not aware my party of 6 would be complemented by an additional 3 more characters. I now command an army.

When I was testing I had 15 in my party. I don't know if that is an army, but it is at least a regiment I think.

I've continued to experiment with crafting and can now enchant a weapon with 2d4 acid damage using a recipe. I found a couple more bugs in SoZ crafting while I was at it. So at this point I know that I can create SoZ style recipes to do most, if not all, of the MotB enchanting. The question I have for those who love crafting is why should I do this? It will clearly take quite a bit of time and I do not know what real benefit there is to using SoZ recipes over using the Enchanter's Satchel. Please enlighten me.

hi Kaldor,

I enjoy crafting but I'm not a fanatic about it. From what I hear you're kinda "meh" about it. The beauty of SoZ crafting is that, as I believe you yourself point out, the PC needs to know / have the recipe : no meta-gaming textfiles from the 'Net. meh :) The point, Crafting is far too large, difficult, and prone to error unless the modder uses it him/herself, and/or derives some peculiar, even masochistic *umph* from the challenge.

Personally I'm fine with OC+MotB crafting. I don't like the implementation in SoZ, where Feats etc. are spread among the group, and if I really wanted to .. just log on the Web and spawn in whatever recipe, anyway. For comparison, in MotB the recipes are printed right on the essences (as you know), and if one really wants realism in their OC, simply don't craft anything the PC doesn't have a recipe for.

It seems to me you have taken the most important stuff from SoZ and implemented it in both the OC and MotB : the infamous "I'm not dead yet" and Party Creation - and much else i'm sure.

Congratz! I've snaggled a lot of your knowledge over the years, so maybe it's time to download a nice mod and .. Load Game!!!

I am messing a little with the OC make over, and so far everything is working as intented except for the rest. 8 hours don't pass, and it's unlimited. What ever the difficulty. I only played the begining.

Empty your override folder. You may have something that contains its own rest script.

There is a rest script in Kaedrin pack with the same name.
