Remember the horrible ad campaign EA/Bioware had for Dragon Age: Origins? The horrible rock music supposed to imply another action game? What do you think the ad campaign is going to be like for this one?

Some recent EA games have had bad ad campaigns (Dead Space 2, for example) but I'm hoping they will make a good one for DA2. Yeah, I know they need to sell games and all, but can't you do that without false advertising to?

Actually, now that it's not a blank post, I disagree.

The Violence trailer was the thing that got me interested in DAO (and I knew exactly what kind of game it is)

Frankly, as long as the game is still good, they can do whatever goddamn advertising campaign they want to. The marketing's been repulsive so far, but Bioware games are well worth a little a lot of cringing.

EDIT - Plus, we don't actually know how many people got into the game because of "think like a general fight like a spartan" and all that tomfoolery. For all we know, those catchphrases are a genius marketing ploy that tripled DAII preorders. They probably aren't, but they could be.

I'm already hooked on Bioware. I don't need to see advertisments anymore.

I thought the Dante's Inferno campaign was pretty much the poster child for epic video game advertising fail. That said, I haven't really seen any advertising for DA2 outside of posts on gaming websites and conventions.

While I find the "No one pukes on me" tv spot for Dead Space 2 quite funny, it doesn't make me want to buy the game.

What made me sit up and take notice for DAO was their commercial where Leliana is doing backflips and Morrigan turns into a huge spider. Now I take note of anything that Bioware puts out.

Yeah..those Marilyn Manson ads...nearly stopped me from buying the game...

...fortunately I went back for another look after some game trailers were released...best decision I ever made..next to putting the beers in the freezer before I had a shower...

Who cares? As long as the game is good they may advertise any way they like.

I actually liked the origins ads...of course I saw them only after I'd played the game.

well since they have just over a month away and we havent seen a fraction of the advertising of the first one I'd say you have nothing to worry about.

I liked the DAO ads personally, I found the music somewhat fitting strangely enough.

Which were absurd. I mean, Marilyn Manson? Has anyone cared about that guy since 1997?

Obviously someone would immediately chime in with a positive response to my rhetorical question. I should have assumed it.

Judging by the Destiny trailer and tendency to show Garret Hawke at the end of DA2 videos, I expect any ad campaign to highlight how your character is a consummate badass. There will probably be repetitious guitar chords in the background since rule of cool dictates badasses have theme music chock full of electric guitar riffs. In addition we will probably see character reveals ranging from more badassery to funny or sexy depending on whether said character is another badass, comic relief, or love interest.

I will probably ignore most of it while also quietly lamenting the continued invisibility of LadyHawke in ads.

They've only got 5 weeks left. If they're going to start doing a bunch of reveals they better get started soon if they intend for them to drive sales. Look at how many people missed the SE upgrade cut-off, and how many months was that promotion in effect for?

At this point I would be happy with crappy marketting. I just want any marketting at all.
