Geez 7. I didn't have any deaths on my first playthrough (with no spoilers/walkthroughts) and thought maybe they were overstating the whole 'suicide' thing until I visited these forums after.

But I'm a completionist and did everything I possibly could before the Relay.

I just beat it the other night as well and didn't lose anyone. I was talking to a customer at work though who was complaining that everyone died. I wasn't trying to be cruel but I sort've laughed and asked how. Apparently he didn't bother to do any side missions or ship upgrades. @_@

I was lucky on 1st playthrough to get everyone through alive. A couple died the second time when I chose a different biotic specialist and team leader (turns out Thane isn't as good with biotics as Jack; Grunt can't lead for sh***) then I looked up the mechanics and was pretty chuffed with myself :P

I may have lost one or two team-mates once during my first playthrough and run of the suicide mission. I dunno I'm completionist usually putting 40+ hours in my first playthroughs. So I had everyone loyal, fully upgraded ship, etc. I think the only mistake I made is for the final boss fight I took Garrus and Grunt with me and that weakened the hold the line team. Think Mordin or someone else died. I was a bit dismayed (I figured you could save everyone, there is an achievement afterall). Reading up I realized you need at least Grunt or Garrus left behind to ensure the team can hold with no casualities. So I just re-loaded and did it again, with no deaths. I save often. You're a fool not to do so in any Bioware game.

Hey OP!

You still didn't say what did you do to make 7 people die unintentionally in Suicide Mission!

Hm...I would have to disagree that seven playthroughs is a record.

You might want to re-read the OP before disagreeing, buddy. :)

Yeah, still not a record. Ecaels Worst Playthrough and its siblings were worse, though intentional.

Also got to remember that this is only one person admitting to their failure. There are likely many more who didn't.

Well apparently I didn't do enough loyalty missions (think I just did Jack and Zaeed), and I didn't get too many ship upgrades. Got plenty of weapon and armor upgrades though. I'm usually not one for side quests, so this ending came as a bit of a shock to me. Hope that clarifies things.

I wasn't responding to the OP. :P I was actually responding to JeffZero's suggestion of going for more playthroughs, though I did misread that comment as they mention going for eight. I would still disagree.

As for surviving members...you can get them all killed so seven still isn't a record.

EDIT: if you do get most of them killed you get the bad ending.

EDIT 2: for the record I only lost one on my first playthrough and that was Legion.

Oh, I didn't mean to imply seven or eight would be a record, either. I was talking more of what I plan on doing. I saw someone else say they'd played the game through some thirty times earlier, haha.

Now 30 playthroughs is the highest I've heard. I'm 'only' on a dozen myself.

Checked a recent finished game; I counted 9 coffins.

EDIT: Intentionally trying to get everyone killed, not accidental. I will still stand by the thought that it's easier to save your squad than to kill them if you play through the game.

For roleplaying purposes, Shepard wouldn't lose that many because s/he would have to be an idiot. A person like that would never have achieved an N7 rank if they didn't know their own team.

I mean who died where?
Engine room, Tech specialist, party memmber do to wrong/unloyal Biotic specialist, 2nd Fire team leader, holding the line and fighting with Reaper.

I can see how the ending would be a surprise, since NPC deaths never have anything remotely to do with "loyalty." They should have called it focus or something else. None of the squadmates in ME2 die as a result of actions that could be considered disloyal.

It honestly suprises me when people say they had people die in their first playthrough.

My friend's 11 year old brother completed ME2 without anyone dying.

First time I lost Legion , but like plenty more where he came from.

And Grunt to a single shot which supposedly penertrated his shields....

Jack Died on the way back, figure because I lost her loyalty with the Miranda arguement.

The whole debacle with Grunt just pissed me off more than making me sad. I'd seen grunt survive hails of fire with Fortify and his ARMOUR. It was almost as bad as Jack and the Ymir mechs.

I didn't lose a single squadmate in any of my play throughs. I did lose the crew once though. That said I'm considering a play through where I can get rid of some squadmates I don't care for like Jacob, Zaeed, and Jack and then see how it affects ME3.

I only lost Jack on my first play through(on the 360) so I'm going to try to save everyone on my second play through (on the PS3).It has been a year since I last played ME2 but the game still is as impressive and fun as ever.

First playthrough should always be your canon before you start gaming it. Keep that save for ME3!

Being a completionist and carefully considering my assignments, I only lost Mordin my first playthrough. But that hurt.

I didn't lose anyone on my first playthrough. Apparently I just got lucky. Zaeed, Thane and Jack weren't loyal and they still lived. I lost a lot of the crew though (poor Kelly, no lapdance for me). I completely lucked out by sending Mordin back with them so he didn't bite it. I did have every upgrade known to man by the time I took on the SM though. I'm on my second playthrough now, which I think actually may be the one I import into 3 so I'm undecided how I'm going to play it. From an RP perspective my Shep would make all the right choices to keep her team alive.

I never understood how people could just skip all the upgrades and loyalty missions, especially on the first time. You've known some of these characters for a while and all of them (yes, even the bald one) are likable to the extent that you want to keep them alive.

I guess losing loyalty through lack of paragon/renegade points can make this happen. And making bad decisions like putting Grunt or Zaeed in charge of keeping people alive. Or putting Thane or Jacob in the tube, when you're expilictly told you need a tech expert. Or choosing a weak ass biotic to keep the bubble up.

Yeah. I guess it's possible. Never happened to me, though.

I lost 2 or 3 people (been too long and I can't remember exactly) my first play through also. I did all of the ship upgrades, except the medic one. I sided with Miranda, I forgot where I put Legion so didn't re-start him (my stupidity no one else) and didn't realize my crew would be taken by the collectors so hadn't done all of the loyalty missions before picking up Legion.

Most of my games have squad loses. Usually one or two. I never fix the medic lab and sometimes can't talk Miranda/Jack or Tali/Legion down. But I like it that way. Having everyone survive every time I play would make for a boring ME3 carry over.

I like having an unexpected ending, to a point.  It's a lot like real life, you can't get it perfect, and you can't go back and fix your mistakes, you just have to work through them.

Then we have a homicide mission.

Shepard: Grunt, into the narrow ducts to use your amazing technical skills to open the doors.
Grunt: ....

Shepard: Jack, lead the distraction team around the Collector flank
Jack: %^&# you all. I hope you all die.
Distraction Team: ...

Agree.  :)  I do have a couple where everyone survived, but I also like having some where Shepard had to rush just a bit.  I have one where some of the crew died.  That I won't do more than once.  I missed Gabby and Kelly.

I lost 1 my first play through because I didnt get Zaeed and I sent grunt with the crew. I kind of want to make a run where only Zaeed survives to add to his list of "only I came back alive" stories.

That just made me want to load a save right before the mission and see how bad I can screw it up.

I lost 2 the first time (Thane and Mordin) which I suppose isn't as bad as it could've been. I mean both had already lived their lives full so, no real regrets or anything. I sent Thane through the vent (I thought he'd end up encountering actual resistance in the vent - like Collectors going through the vent after him like the Aliens do in those movies). And I lost Mordin because I sent Zaeed back to escort the crew and I took Grunt with me to face the HR.

Still I don't like to think it counts because, AHEM!, Kasumi wasn't available yet and if she were there I would've made some definite changes in my squad lineup... (I know, its a copout lol.)

I'll just have to try and redeem myself in ME3.
