I was thinking yesterday about what weapons i give my team and my soldier and i was wondering is it purely for looks or are some versions of the class of guns better suited for certain enemies!!

I have had a look on the game data post and see that each gun has tiny variations in dmg stats but i was wondering what people like to use and what guns they prefer..

Personally i always use:
Collector Assualt rifle - Seems to rip through shields and i normally pair it with Disrupter ammo.

M-100 Grenade launcher - this is up for debate between that and the Collector Particle Beam due to availabilty till Horizon.

M-6 Carnifex Hand Cannon - this pistol i pure choice due to i dont like the laser sight on the DLC pistol. But i am curious after reading people love the original pistol due to the larger ammo capacity.

Geth plasma Shotgun - I dont see any other choice due to the projectiles seem easy to aim even at long range and the fact it rips apart shield troops.

M-97 Viper Sniper Rifle - this is prefrence depending on what class you play (widow/infil) and i normally give my sniper teammates the DLC sniper apart from legion which gets the Widow eventually.

Locust SMG - I like the Kasumi DLC SMG due to it seems to have really good accuracy and for classes that dont have the assualt rifle it seems a really good alternative.

On a seperate note upon watching a few videos on you tube i seem to see that alot of people dont pick thre weapons very well for certain situations and strengths so i thought i would write a list as to there defined strengths without taking into effect ammo powers.

Assualt Rifles
+ armor/shields/barriers

Heavy pistols
+ armor
-  shields/Barriers

Shotguns
+ shields/barriers
-  armor

Snipers
+ armor
- shields/barriers

SMG
+ shields/barriers
- armor

Heavy
+ Everything ( but some are suited more for certain situaltions such as the firestorm flamethrower and the arc projector)

It comes down to personal preference. Although Mattock AR under Adrenaline Rush breaks the game. But DLC is almost always overpowered, I suggest avoiding Mattock on the Soldier class unless you want super-easy game.

For me it is:
Sniper: Widow
AR (LMG): Revenant
Shotgun: Claymore
Pistol: Predator
SMG: Locust/Tempest - this is very close, I switch between them depending on my class
Heavy Weapon: Cain

Same, although I exclusively use the Locust.

- Cain because it allows me to skip the boring Reaper ship core fight and it also helps with the final boss (boring). I don't use heavy weapons in other missions.
- Revenant because it feels like Rambo :D and is exceptionally good in close combat.

In terms of being 'best', IMO,

Shotgun: Claymore

Sniper: Widow

AR: Mattock

Pistol: Predator

SMG: Locust

HW: They are all pretty unique, Cain is probably the best though.

Im noticing now that alot of you choose th Predator pistol as your choice.. is that all due to its larger ammo capacity?

That, and it's fast.  I almost never use the pistol, though.

On the subject on heavy weapons does anyone have specific enemies that they pair weapons to.. such as th arc projector for Mech heavy/geth missions or do you stick with your favourites.

Yeah, I feel you get more mileage out of it over the others.  I use the pistol fairly frequently as a vanguard and I prefer its speed and feel over the carnifex.

I usually take the Arc Projector for the Disabled Collector Vessel in case things go horribly, horribly wrong.  And I take the Cain for the Reaper IFF to skip the core fight at the end.  The only other time I'm deliberate about my heavy weapons is on the mission where you have to save all of the crates.  Rather than using the Cain and Charging (which requires skill), I typically use the Rocket Launcher and lure the YMIRs one at a time.

For me, it's the following:

Assault Rifle:
M-96 Mattock

Heavy Pistol:
M-5 Phalanx

Heavy Weapon:
Arc Projector

Shotgun:
Geth Plasma Shotgun

Sniper Rifle:
M-97 Viper

Submachine Gun:
M-12 Locust

EDIT: LMFAO ... only one isn't a DLC weapon. Just noticed that! XD

There really is no "best" weapon in each class.

Assault Rifles:
- The Mattock is the most effective by far, but it lacks full auto which some people dislike.  Its power is also off-putting to some because it trivialized content.
- The Revenant has a much better "flavor" to it according to some.

Sniper Rifles:
- Widow vs Viper.  "One shot-One kill" vs "Drop that Scion from across the room in a second".  It depends on what you're looking to do.  As a bonus weapon for V, A, E and S's, the Viper is the obvious choice.

Shotguns:
- There's literally no bad choice here.  I personally prefer the Eviscerator.  I know PC players can make better use of the Claymore, but even when I could pull it off on the X-box, the reload trick was just too unrealiable for my tastes.

SMG:
- Pure DPS: Shuriken
- Damage/Clip and sheer Shield Stripping large targets: Tempest
- Replacement Assault Rifle/Long range: Locust

Pistols:
- Primary weapon: Predator
- Armor stripper: Carnifex
- Sniper Rifle-lite: Phalanx

There's no "best in class" for any of them.  It depends on what you're looking for.  I'll always take the Predator over anything else on an Infiltrator but early game, I'm reliant on the Phalanx as a Vanguard.  I always go with the Locust as a back up on a Shotgun Engineer but I'd always go with the Tempest as backup on an AR Adept.  It all depends on the class.

On the subject of heavy weapons, I'm with Kronner. I use the Grenade Launcher on Garrus's recruitment to kill the last enemy (the hover-plane-heli-tank thing out the window), then after that I only use the Cain for Reaper Core and the terminator, if I think about it at all.

AR: Mattock

HP: Predator

SG: Eviscerator

SR: Viper

SMG: Locust or the Shuriken on CQC Infiltrator

Keep in mind this is mostly chosen for a Soldier, although my choices remain the same (for applicable weapons) when it comes to an Infiltrator.

AR: Mattock
HP: Phalanx
SR: Widow
SMG: Locust
SG: Eviscerator

The Collector ship used to pose a difficult decision as a soldier: hardened adrenaline rush with the Revenant, or heightened with the Widow? I generally chose the former. But now with the Mattock, you can have a great synergy between heightened and both your AR and sniper, so taking the Widow is the best choice.

The Phalanx is just there for precise shots where I don't want to waste Widow ammo, and for stripping armor when I'm short on ammo (which is the only downside of this approach).

I exclusively use the Locust when I have an SMG class, primarily for the improved accuracy at range. Tempest for squadmates, obviously.

The shotgun... I haven't really evaluated it, since it's not very relevant to my soldier playstyle. It looks good and does the trick, so meh :P

SMG: Locust

Pistol: Carnifex (Eventually that is, at the start some classes might prefer the Predator for ammo)

Assault Rifle: Mattock

Sniper Rifle: Viper (Widow is quite different and I can understand people preferring it)

Shotgun: Geth Shotgun (love the charge up, amazing for inflitrators)

Heavy Weapon: Collector Particle Beam

Quite often the choice for Adepts, Sentinels and Engineers is more about Viper vs Mattock vs Geth Shotgun.
