Can I have my Mage look like this? -OR- What do you want your Mage to look like?

Alright, my first play through on Dragon Age Origins had been a Male Mage, the crazy guy pictured on my Avatar. However, there were a couple of things that I had problems with.

First of all... I really found the majority of the Mages robes lackluster. Some were a bit better. (Tevinter robes maybe? Can't quite recall.) However... there was just something about them that really bothered me.

What bothered me more were the hats and "Hoods" that the mages could get. The ridiculous looking things with feathers sprouting out the top like an overgrown peacock. I think that bothered me to most, so I looked for a picture that showed what I hope a Male Mage could wear aside from those robes and hoods.

That picture right there is what I wish I could have my Mage look like. Anyone else have pictures or suggestions on new Mage appearances?

I want my mage to be indistinguishable from any other common person in the setting, actually. His or her abilities should come as a surprise to people, not be really obvious because of the huge hat or whatever.  But that's probably just me.

That is true... but I suppose in a way that if you are a Mage and at least dress differently then the circle mages, you'd be harder to identify. They would, after all, be wearing the funny feather hats and hoods.

You've got a point - a wizard without a pointy hat is not a wizard. That applies to witches too, see Yuria in Demon's Souls.

You aren't the only one.  One of the main reasons I made my mage in DA:O an Arcane Warrior was to get better looking gear.

I personally friggin hate the Gandalf/wizard/witch look, so I'm glad they're not going that direction. It's like a huge arrow pointing to you that shouts "HEY TEMPLARS, APOSTATE HERE NEENER NEENER".

Sure. Such look is for really bold wizards. The ones that got balls.

Crystal balls. You know, the ones with deadly lightning encased inside.

Unless it was a unique look you could get, because if it was a unique look many people in Dragon Age would probably think you were something other then a Mage, due to the fact that all the other mages (including apostates it seems) dress in the ridiculous Circle mage robes with feathery hoods and hats.

Of course... there's also the problem of every mage who uses their staffs to try and hide the large stick they wield. Maybe they can hide it through magic and summon it when needed? :P

Hm, they did say Mages can get the half sword/staff weapon now, didn't they?

Both options. I want unassuming, Templar-proof outfits as well as ridiculous red and purple pimp robes with fuzzy shoulders.

And of course there's that sweet mage armor we've seen in the dev diaries.

Personally, I like the direction they're going with the iconic mage Hawke armor-robe. And dat swordstaff! It's not overly flashy (spiky is a different matter), and doesn't be scream "APOSTATE" to the templars. That is, until you start throwing fireballs around. That might raise some eyebrows.

These two are my two favorite concepts of mages.

I would really love hoods . Like so many others one of the reason I became AW was to aleast look respectable ... I mean who can take some serious wearing a hat that you could be sure to find in a novelty shop ... :/

Yeah. Actual regular hoods would be nice in my opinion too. Not the campy "hoods" that they have for mages already.

I personally hated the Tevinter robes, they were made for a shaman rather than a mage IMHO.

I don't mind Gandalf-esque stuff, but for the love of the Maker, no more feathers and stuff.
