I have been looking into getting this game I found the Gold edition at Wal Mart for dirt cheap is that a good version?
Also I noticed that the henchmen system has been done away with in favor of a new party system... Does this mean you can create a party of PCs now? If not how could I do something similar to the OHS Henchmen system in NWN 1? The other drawback is my PC is fairly old... I still have a GeForce 5900 and a P4 2.8 gig CPU... If I were to grab say a GeForce 6 would I be any better off? Anyways alot to decide here before I grab this... I really love NWN 1 and I hear how much more 2 can do but dont want to get it right away if I cant do the above at this time due to graphics restraints and the henchmen system... I hate playing solo it seems more lively with a party like the old DOS games...
Thanks!

I don't know if your old card can handle it, but your processor certainly can. If your card supports Shader Model 2.0 and Pixel Shader 3.0, has 128M Dedicated Video Ram or more (recommended minumum I believe is 128M), then it will probably play it and just keep the resolution reasonable (like no higher than 1024x768) and the options down on medium or low and you may have something you can deal with now.
Recommend: Newer video card. Storm of Zehir (or you can buy the Platinum version at Wal-Mart for probably 24 bucks or so, which includes the Original Campaign (OC), Mask of the Betrayer (MotB and is with the Gold version) and Storm of Zehir (SoZ) and is fully patched to latest.) You can also purchase the Platinum edition off Steam if you desire and it's reasonable I believe at like 20 bucks.
Also highly recommend coming here for more questions, answers and discussion on things as you play through the game. Please attempt to find what you're looking for before posting, and welcome.

Thanks for the response & welcome!
What about the option to create a character party or are there haks for this? I didnt see something along the lines of OHS Henchmen in the NWN2 vault... But then it has been stated that NWN2 no longer uses the same system for henchmen... I guess I dont quite know what to look for yet as I havent played the new version lol
Plus are you saying the Gold edition does not include all the expansions? It said it did on the package or so I thought...

SoZ (Included in the Platinum edition) allows for a party created by the player. The NWN2 OC and MotB (the Gold Edition) have parties of pre-generated companions, similar to the henchmen you had in NWN1, except that you can have more of them, and you have more direct control over their actions and their leveling-up.

If you also purchase SoZ then there is a mod that allows creating your own party. You cannot ditch the companions provided in the game though. They are more central to the plot than the NWN henchmen were.

I said, Gold edition = OC and MotB, Platinum edition = OC, MotB & SoZ. At the time the Gold edition was released, it contained all the expansions to date, that number being a generously large One.

Thanks for all the information & I ended up with the platinum edition as it was the better buy... The Gold edition was 10 bucks but I didnt mind getting more for double the cash... On the other hand I found myself somewhat dissaponted on a whole with this game vs the first edition... I know many might disagree but I think the older graphics looked more canon D&D than the new... Especially the hair styles... I dont think they have hair gel in a fantasy setting... And the heads overall were rather bland and uninspired... Most seemed rather ugly to me but thats a matter of opinion I suppose... Then there was some of the clothing... A star on a cloak LOL?
Anyways I ended up enjoying the toolset it makes a rather nice art tool... All in all I give NWN2 a 5 or 6 out of 10... The aspect of a character party & having more control over them was a plus! In some respects yes the graphics are impressive but there lacking somehow that charm of the original... Overall I think something is missing from this version & maybe its more mods and what not... When I get a faster system I might try some of those out... But I also notice there are alot less mods for this version of NWN than the first... Seems like after about 4 years there should be more unless others found this dissapointing like myself and went back to playing the first version... Well with that said I was giving an honest opinion of what I thought of the game and like all sequels they tend to dissapont...

NWN2 is a lot more powerful, and can do a lot more cool things, but the trade-off is that it's harder to get to grips with. This, coupled with an abysmal release, an utter lack of marketing, and a big to-do over the Mysteries of Westgate adventure pack, have done severe harm to the community and meant that there are perhaps less mods and things than there could be. However, there are definately some very high-quality player-made things out there, certainly worth checking out.

And don't forget that the NWN side of the Community is still cranking out stuff and has been for nine years or so now -- so with the steeper power curve to modding (building adventures) and the higher bar to entry for modeling, the releases just can't keep the same pace as they did in NWN.
That said, the things that do get released, from my experience and investigations, tend to hold an overall higher standard across the board compared to NWN offerings. Not because NWN2 is better, but because the bar is high enough where, by the time you can release something, it's just had to have had more polish on it. In NWN, relative noobs could bang out a story (some good, some not so good and some really bad) in short time frames and less quality requirements as a bar to release.
Bear in mind this is a relative level of quality of module to module within each platform not compared against each platform. There are superlative modules in each group, but there are less overall mediocre modules in NWN2 simply because those who could whip out a module in NWN are not as likely to stick with it for NWN2 as it is clearly more time consuming and a steeper learning curve. And this is only because mediocre talent (and I mean no disrespect here, honestly) generally lacks the patience to put in the time necessary to get an NWN2 module out of the chute.
NWN made a fantastic thing. It also had a much lower bar to learning and entry, thus opening the gates to a lot more folks, including a lot more "one offs" and "should have taken more time" releases.
Even so, nine years versus four years and it's easy to see a divide in overall number of modules. And make no mistake, NWN is no slouch. I still like the graphics in it. And yes, the NWN2 models have been amply complained about as to their overall "ugliness" in character models. And it's merited criticism.
Sorry, didn't mean to go this direction. I felt that you should get a perspective view on your good question as to amount of modules in NWN vs NWN2. There's more to it than that, but you only have so much time to hear a point of view.
best regards,
