ExoGeni - what did they actually know?

I'm pretty confused over this - I'm trying to get my conversation with Ethan Jeong "right", but I'm finding it quite difficult, because I think there are some inconsistencies with what's being said...

Basically:
  • Jeong says that "ExoGeni wants this place purged"
[so they want everything destroyed because they knew all about the Thorian and the Zhu's Hope control group going awry?]
  • but then when Shep intimidates/charms him, Jeong says, "but ExoGeni will send more assayers - they'll know what happened"
[wait, so ExoGeni don't know what happened?]
  • and Shep says, "Tell them the Geth killed the Thorian",
[I thought they wanted the Thorian dead anyway... Why does Shep say this? Why does Shep assume they'll be mad if I kill the Thorian (I'm a spectre, anyway...)? Shep's just been informed that they want the whole place purged... Why does she think they don't want the Thorian purged?]

  • and Jeong says, "but the colonists can't be here"...
[wait, do they know about the colonists or not? Why is he talking as though he doesn't want ExoGeni finding out about them?  I thought they knew exactly what was going on with the colonists, and wanted them purged...]
How do I interpret this crazy ass conversation?

I tend to just shoot him.

@Sgt Reed

Normally I don't and I just shoot him because it seems the most paragon thing to do, and thus I avoid the last 3 bullet points...

But as I'm preparing a "canon" playthrough, I want to understand every possible conversation so I can pick the right one (which is normally no problem, expect for ones like the above)!  :P

Hm...I could've sworn you shoot him if you pick the white paragon option too.

It's not, because you only shoot Jeong in self-defense - it's not an execution.  Basically you give him the option to stand down and try to arrest him, and he freaks out and tries to kill you, so you have to put him down.

If you do the charm/intimidate option, you suggest covering up what ExoGeni did, and that way Jeong doesn't freak out and try to kill you.  I think those are more renegade than trying to arrest him.

Yup, any of the non persuasion options are basically the same, Jeong tries to kill you, and you react ;)

At least one thing I'm sure of: they don't want the Thorian to die. It was a rare life form, they wanted to study it and learn what can be learned. With that said, I think they feared the colonists could have knowledge about the Thorian, hence the "they want this place purged." Note, not the whole place, just the colonists.

But, I'm confused with the line "but ExoGeni will send more assayers - they'll know what happened", because it implies the main Exogeni hq doesn't know about the Thorian.

Ah. I can't be bothered to save the slime anymore.

Frankly if Shep could've shot the head of ExoGeni he would've done that too.
