She was a minor character in Origins, so I'll let her behavior in DAO slide. Most likely, she would have undergone some personality changes...

We've already met Isabella. . . but I am most looking forward to seeing her character fleshed out a bit. We've seen the part of her that doesn't shy away from getting dirty, and some of her talents, but I can't wait to see what makes her tick.
I also want to meet Bethany and get to know her full personality. Having a little sister as a companion is a very intriguing thought. It will be very interesting to see how that plays out.

Why are people thinking the male mage is Anders rather than Finn? I thought Finn was hinted as a returner a few months back.
Basically because the unidentified male mage sort-of looks how Anders might look in the new art style, and also Finn was not a terribly popular character. Personally I liked Finn and would be happy to see a cameo, but I kinda hope "Anders" is a completely new character.

Either Merrill or Fenris. Merrill is a "young, virginal" girl who is also a blood mage. That's very interesting. Fenris is a "living weapon". They both sound interesting to me.

I want confirmation on male mage, and then I want to meet Aveline. She's not as blatantly awesome as Varric or Isabela, but from her character description and dev comments, she seems like an extremely compelling character.
