Can I just point out that once again there is no proof that Merill is a companion.

She hasnt been confirmed and Anders hasnt been confirmed.

Someone has asserted to me that there is a singular screenshot of her of her that shows her with a companion portrait; but I am yet to find it. And it still isnt proof because they can be easily doctored.

So she really ought not to be in this poll.

EDIT:
I'd also like to point out the stupidity of making assumptions and assertions about a bunch of characters we know very little about. There really isnt enough information out there to really say anything much about any of them really.

True, there isn't very much official proof, but developers have made comments which strongly suggest that Merrill will be a companion of some kind. Of course, it hasn't been officially revealed yet. Perhaps the elf they showed in the trailers isn't really Merrill, but someone else. Always possible.

Why so anal?  It's pretty obvious Merrill is a companion.  And sure, we know very little about any of the NPCs but the poll is about the character people are interested in meeting, not the one they know for sure is awesome.

Thats actually quite wrong.

The character in the trailer IS Merill but no where has any of the Devs or Writers said she is a companion; in fact DG has gone out of his way to talk about her as an NPC not a companion.

I am not disagreeing that she may well end up a companion - I am hoping not because it doesnt really make sense lorewise given how xenophobic and insular the Dalish are; and the fact that Hawke is no Grey Warden.
But chances are she will be a companion but like I said there is no conclusive proof or announcements or dev statements saying that she is.

Its not being anal, its being sensible and not jumping to conclusions; Nor is it "pretty obvious" as I said many of the things the Devs have said that are being used as "proof" actually dont prove anything - just because we got a look at her look in one trailer doesnt mean anything.

@FitScotGaymer: in a thread about the possibility to switch weapon from Hawke to our companion the dev (Seb if I remember well) made this example: we can switch our sword and shield from Hawke to Aveline, and our staff from a Mage Hawke to Merrill. This isn't a proof, but at least a strong hint.

It still isnt proof that she is a companion. Its proof that she is an important NPC.

Again I am not disagreeing I am just pointing out that you cant talk about her like she is an absolute certain companion because YOU DONT ACTUALLY KNOW.

I have been told numerous times that the "devs said this" and the "devs said that" in whatever thread; and even been linked to said threads.
And not once did I ever see any Dev say that she (or Anders) were companions at any point - so you will forgive me if I continue thinking that she is a "likely companion" and not a "confirmed definate companion".

And my point about her ought not be included in the Poll still stands. If you include her you may as well include Anders or Mage Dude that looks Suspiciously like Anders as well because we have around the same amount of evidence for both.
Which is very little.

I've always wanted Merrill as a permanent companion in Origins, so she gets my vote. Varric is a close second, being a cool dwarf and a guy who doesn't wax his chest on a daily basis. The other characters seem cool, although Fenris comes across as a little too JRPG-inspired for my liking.
