Oh my goodness, a character with a dynamic personality, just like humans! How could this happen? ME2's representation is quite faithful. He was a whiny cop that resigned from C-Sec, in order to serve real justice with Shepard. All of a sudden, Shepard dies and the team breaks up! Joining C-Sec is impossible/not worth it, so he becomes a vigilante. Retcons, retcons everywhere!adneate wrote...
We finally reach the heart of the matter, I dislike Garrus because his ME2 incarnation isn't faithful to his ME1 incarnation.
Oh, I was fond of Garrus in ME1, he just had no personality. If you were never fond of that Garrus then the change wouldn't concern you and this new Garrus, shoehorned into the plot as he is, wouldn't cause you to raise an eyebrow. However the change is not adequetly explained his new circumstances are a slap in the face to the those who bothered to play ME1 and import their game's on the promise that Mass Effect was a trilogy with each game building on the other.
And yeah, the rest is bull. He quit C-Sec in order to enforce justice, and when Shepard dies, he just has to do it elsewhere.
If someone likes this new Garrus, whatever, but he is not the ME1 Garrus and I personally find him somewhat unlikeable and his inclusion in the game baffelling when I look back at ME1.

How is it baffling again? I mean, if you really believed that you would have answered the rest of my points?
VSIf BioWare had the guts to ignore the fans
Yeah, yeah, Garrus, who quit C-Sec, and has had enough of all of the red line, would return to be a model officer, moved to Customs and become a Captain. Continuity win!and do what was best for the character and continuity they would have plopped Garrus into Bailey's chair and not bothered making that character in the first place.
Why should Garrus, not be in your squad?Heck there would probably be a Garrus comic if they did this and you could still have him as a romance option if that's what floats your boat. There is no rule they have to be on the squad and that you can only sleep with somone before a suicide mission of some kind.

You realize that those people that are "surprised" about people not liking Garrus were, more or less, joking around? Of course you did.
No character is going to liked by everyone.
Make a thread about not liking Wrex, and people will say the same thing.
How can you not like Wrex?

Did you miss the part of the OP that said "I want to punch the guy twenty times" and kill him in different, inflammatory ways? Because where I come from, calling to kill a character and beat him up does not qualify as a valid opinion. Much of the rest of the OP is fine, but where most of the fans blow him off is pretty much his first sentence.
The OP sounds very much like trolling, whether you like it or not. No one is criticizing your dislike of Garrus. They're criticizing your association and agreement with the OP.

By all means, some people do dislike Garrus. Well they are few, but they do exist. If I were to support locking this topic is because the OP has an unregistered copy of ME2 (Yeah, you can register PS3 copies now), and hasn't bothered replying. Just like the guide Uszi posted. Oh and the OP is full of inflammatory comments.Ieldra2 wrote...

Garrus put a mind control chip in your Shepard's brain to make him think "I've got some calibrations to do" is a normal excuse to use 50,000 times over.
He's that badass.

no you just don't seem to get that most people actually get along despite liking different characters and actually don't feel the need to constantly rub it into each other's faces that they DISLIKE this or that character.
so most people here actually dont really give a flying vorcha ass about people disliking Garrus and even you should be able to see that statements like "you're wrong" are not necessarily meant serious but of course, if you wanna take them seriuosly, go ahead and then bash all Garrus fans if it floats your boat. Just don't expect us to take you seriously then.....

Not really. To them, theres nothing to be in denial about. They love Garrus and they find the OP's behavior amusing, not worth taking seriously.
In my experience, they are, for the most part, the least defensive of all character fans. There really aren't many things for them to be defensive about.
Liara had her ME2 retcon so her fans had that plus the forums constantly reminding them about it.
Tali fans were just filled with Hubris, plain and simple.
Jack fans couldn't give a crap.
Thane fans have his death to worry about.
Jacob and Grunt fans are either too weathered to care or too few to speak up.
Samara fans don't have much to worry about, she's a strong character with moral fiber. Though her black and white nature is likely to rub many the wrong way so they have to deal with that.
Mordin fans are pretty much universal, no one really to be defensive against. Everybody loves Mordin.
Miranda fans have the Devs' camera angles and her costume to contend with as well as her somewhat abrasive personality and romance scene and they can be a bit touchy.
Legion fans have the circumstantial nature of the geth as allies to contend with but that ties in to many topics related to the geth and quarians so diversion is simple enough.
Ashley fans have both Horizon and ME1 to deal with but they seem weathered enough or simply more accepting of other viewpoints, even if people often say that their Character stinks.
Kaiden fans have similar criticisms to their character as Jacob and Grunt fans but for the most part its a simple thing to weather.
Garrus was naive in ME1 and Badass in ME2 and by comparison, there aren't many things to criticize him for. Certainly nothing of true controversy like Ashley and Liara, just minor things like what the OP pointed out.
Nothing to get defensive over...

I like Jacob because he popped my Bioware Cherry (mmm that behind)
I like Liara because she’s a cool chick and a scientist
I like Grunt because he reads Hemmingway
I like Thane because he’s wants to redeem himself (mmm that behind)
I like Jack because she doesn’t take sh*t
I like Tali because she’s an uber cool chick and an engineer (mmm that behind)
I like Samara because amongst the chaos she is calm (mmm that behind)
I like Legion because he made me 50,000 credits
I like Kasumi because she likes books and art (mmm that behind)
I like Joker because he’s a funny sarcastic bugger
I like Chakwas because she knows how to let her hair down
I like Zaeed because he loves that sh*tty old rifle
I like, no love, Garrus, because he’s flawed, and a dork, and caring and somewhat daft, and cheeky and a good shot, and remorseful and… and… and… yeah well you get it.
I’m not in denial about people disliking characters, even my favourite, if that’s how they choose to spend their time then that’s their prerogative. All the characters have flaws, and discussing them can be interesting when flaming and personal abuse isn't thrown into the mix, but most of the time I just like to have fun, away from the banality and sometimes stressful things of real life.
The only character I hate – is that one geth on Virmire, you know the one, he was at the back of the crowd, had these head flaps that just said “I’m a bad’un”
OMG I just read that previous post! We should totally get a group happening.

Garrus is my favourite character. There are some characters I don't meld well with, but I can understand why others like them.
There are many reasons I like Garrus, mainly because despite everything that has happened to him, he still sucks it up to do some good in the world. Many of my other reasons have already been mentioned.
I will be genuinely interested by someone who brings up a persuasive and valid argument about why they don't like Garrus. Note that I have yet to read the rest of this thread
Edit: I found a post that at least gives there reasons for not liking Garrus, and then actually explains there points. (It's on page 5.) That is more how it should be rather than blaring out that 'Garrus dying would be hilarious.'

I think you might be missing the joke... most of the "in the year 2185, all math problems equal Garrus Vakarian" types of posts are just that... kind of a joke. Because there's not really much to talk about, as far as "serious" debate.
I mean,
"I LIKE GARRUS BECAUSE OF A!
I DISLIKE GARRUS BECAUSE OF B!
GARRUS IS A GOOD CHARACTER BECAUSE OF C!
GARRUS GARGLES QUAD BECAUSE OF D!
WHAT DID YOU SAY MOTHER****ER I'VE GOT YOUR IP NOW YOUR DEAD"
would be amusing, too, but perhaps whatever your opinion of Garrus, or any character, you should remember it is only your opinion and no one else on the internet cares unless they agree with you or they thought of something funny to call you.
