Bad move. Fallout: New Vegas was developed by Bethesda, a company with a reputation for releasing buggy games. Fallout 3 was far less buggy. Although the "greatest" wRPGs are usually considered to be games such as Planescape Torment and Baldur's Gate 2.

You mean Obsidian.

But it was better written and closer to Fallout 1/2 than 3 was. And Fallout 3 was pretty buggy at launch too.

Im sure if me3 included a creepy, overdeveloped 15 year old school girl who didnt wear enough and was way to dramatic, oh and shed have to have an anoyingly screechy voice that makes you want to smash the tele whenever she started talking. Then it may well do ok in Japan

Probably a lot of them that would play Mass Effect 2 know English well enough, so they had already got it on PC.

FNV was developed by Obsidian Software (kotor II, Never Winter Night 2 etc), Bethesda is the editor.

Edit: didn't see Cutlass Jack post ....

The Wrex one is twice as creepy, at the very least.

I assume you don't know Japan. Many people there only care for JRPGS and Nintendo's games.

Given that, I'm not surprised it sold just few copies.

To OP.  If you have to shoot in game instead of pressing one button and watching your character(s) engage in lengthy combat animations while you wait for the next totally convoluted story cut-scene to begin, well then sir, you are clearly not playing a Japanese style RPG! All joking aside, I'd hazard a guess that many Japanese gamers don't even consider Mass Effect an RPG at all.

They have a more refined market of Dating Sims, BioWare didn't stand a chance.

Going back to the original Question does it really matter How many copy does mass effect sold in Japan, when it had already sold millions of copies worldwide.

@cancer puppet: IF you think we just like to push single button to play the game you should have a look
www.ripten.com/2010/07/02/call-of-dutys-pass-half-million-mark-in-japan-gets-price-cut-dylan4422/

I found out about Mass Effect 2 when I was searching about wRPGs on wikipedia
If EA advertise the game properly the gamers will sure buy the game.

Well, there's two reasons for that:
a) yes, the Japanese like different kind of games
B) they boycott the Xbox and everything that comes from non-Japanese developers

I've just graduated with a degree in Japanese Studies. I took an exam about the "Cool Japan" campaign in which the game industry plays a curious part.
It is argued that because of the immense popularity of anime, Hello Kitty and Pokemon, the Japanese have emerged as a cultural superpower. Until the 90s anime makers were not interested in the global market. They were only interested in selling to their own people. Now they design products with regard to global appeal. The government tried to instrumentalize their potential cultural power.
Obviously this is not true for the gaming industry. If anything, the Cool Japan image only somewhat restored their lost race pride and confidence. The Japanese have a huge domestic market. Both developers and players stay loyal to the domestic market.
One reason why shooter games fail in Japan is self-Orientalism. The Japanese promote the image of a peaceful country. They are still by constitution forbidden to wage war. The Japanese use this to convince the world that they going the non-military route. This outward picture has an effect on the Japanese themselves. They, too, have come to believe they really are a peaceful country. This is one reason why shooters don't sell in Japan.
The Japanese and the Western gaming industry are going in very different directions at the moment, I'd say. Maybe they've always been very different. But it seems to me that JRPGs used to be a lot more popular in the West in the 90s.
If you take a look at the top 100 games list on Amazon Japan, you'll find few non-Japanese games. ME2 is not on the list (Dragon Age is). ME2 for PS3 ranks 1,104 in games at the moment!
I've never heard of 99% of the Japanese games. They are all anime-style.

I used to love JRPGs as a teenager. Now I love grown up realistic looking games. And BW is providing exactly that.
What I dislike most about Final Fantasy since FFXIII is the look of the characters. They now look exactly like TV idols. The characters of JRPGs have always had spiky hair in various colors, true, but they never looked so "over-styled", for lack of a better word.
Well, Japanese devs are only providing what the Japanese otaku crowd wants, just as the shooter flood is satisfying Western needs. Can't blame them. It just saddens me that I have to turn my back on a genre I loved for so long.
Sorry for the lecture!

thx for lecture

I think the 9,000 sold number was one week's worth of sales only, maybe it's now available on the PS3?

Anyways, if you read the chart that's what it seems to be saying.

Two very conflicting statements.  Interesting.

In which case it shows the advertising reach probably wasn't wide enough or was short lived?  Of course were also assuming this 10,000 figure is correct.

If they wanted it to sell massively in Japan, Miranda would wear what Jack is wearing, with 40 times bigger breasts. and Jack would be wearing nothing. All the male characters would be sad over a lost love. Though, Zaeed would be manly.. on the outside, while on the inside he´s just waiting for the perfect woman to come into his life.
