Asians don't like story in RPG's. They just want to grind, kill 28392 mobs for 239819283 exp so they can hit level 3.  That's all they care about in RPG's.  Oh and they NEED talking kittens wielding swords times bigger.

In their defense, they're good at grinding and playing starcraft 2! :)

I though those were( South) Koreans.

Going off-topic but I heard Starcraft is Koreans national sport.

Is this true? I would have expected ME2 to sell a lot more given that it's a pretty high profile title. I only read this info on forums and I find it a little hard to believe.

not enough tentacles. and japneez girls need to have either HUUUUUUUUUUUUGE ******. or no ******. this normal ****** stuff doesn't fly in japan, lol.

Since this has gotten off-topic and people seem to want to go down the road to inappropriate language and stereotype town, i'm shutting it down.

End of line.

Loving the thinly veiled racism hate here.

Not surprising. Nobody is going to worry about marketing over there either, it's just an uphill battle. It's a shame, really. J-RPG devs really need a few hints to revitalize the genre.

But hey, a japanese porn actress likes Mass Effect, country redeemed in my eyes :P. (link is safe for work).

I have no problem with Japanese people.  But I hate Japanese mainstream culture.  I feel that most of the stuff they love is garbage.  Anime, über cheery pop music, all that fanfare?  I can't stand it.  And if that's the topic of discussion, then I'll be vocal in my low opinion of it.  But that doesn't indicate racism.  I can still admit that they have an awesome traditional culture.  Sumo, for example, has none of the excessively feminine characteristics that turn me away from Japan.

The very aspects of their culture I outlined, however, are why Mass Effect isn't going to succeed in that region.  The Japanese have long had a preference for more linear storyline development, which allows the developer create a much more elaborate plot than one that has to accomodate the variable decisions of the player.  They also value different characteristics in characters than people in the western world.  While we value stoicism and strength, they value emotion and passion.  For a game that is so extensive in character development, this is a major barrier in the regional jump.
