I was just wondering if anyone here has decided to replay DAO, but this time using the DA2 backstories to dictate your build and outcome..........

And, if you are, what are your reasons for doing so...............

We know that for those who don't import a save file, DA2 will give us 3 backstories to choose from:

"Hero of Ferelden" (Default): Ended Fifth Blight by killing Archdemon and survived. Placed Alistair on the throne.
"The Martyr": Young Dalish Elf who died to kill the Archdemon. She left the kingdom ruled by Alistair and Anora.
"No Compromise": Dwarven noble took command of Grey Wardens. Exiled Alistair, sent Loghain to his death against Archdemon, and left Anora as Ferelden’s ruler.
I've decided to replay DA2, following the Martyr storyline.  So, I'm playing as a female Dalish warrior.  She will fall in love with Alistair.  But, as dictated by the storyline, she will let Alistair and Anora rule the kingdom.  And, of course, she will make the ultimate sacrifice to kill the Archdemon.

Initially, I was going to stop playing DAO and just focus on DA2, since I would have to play as Hawke and not my Warden.  Plus, I like the revamped combat mechanics in DA2.  Since I never actually could finish DAO, I had no save to import and I was just going to use one of the 3 backstories.......

However, once I found out about the 3 storyline options, and that Merrill is a companion, I started thinking that it might be fun to recreate those storylines with my own playthrough and then import that save to DA2.

I chose the Martyr storyline because, 1. Merrill is a companion in DA2 and she might have some more things to say if the Warden was one of her clansmen.  Plus, the Dalish origin is one that I never gave much interest to, so this would give me the chance to play that origin.
And 2. because I wanted the Warden to be out of the picture so Hawke can have all the attention.  Image IPB

Anyone else doing ( or planning on doing ) something similar??

I have replayed DAO recently. Alistair is the sole king, and my Warden lives. I don't think it'll make much of a difference for DA2, though, since it's not set in Ferelden.

I'm replaying DAO because I realized I didn't really do all the things I wanted to/deleted chars that I liked the decisions on, etc. As of right now, I don't really like the characters I do have completed, or messed up with their saves because i saved after I beat the game when it takes you back to before you defeated the Blight.

I just did a super thorough completion playthrough. I made sure every quest chain is done, because I want to see those one line dialogue cameos that are important but still make you say: "hey my warden did that" :) It was city-elf, sacrificed herself, married a non-hardened Alistair and Anora together, who was mostly good, except for maybe siding with Branka and saving the Anvil of the Void. I think I accidentally sacrificed Isolade to save Connor's life too :S

My current playthrough and my canon playthrough will match the first criteria. The biggest differences are origins (M!Mahariel/F!Cousland) and the fact that Isolde survives on the first and was sacrificed in the second. Otherwise they're identical.

If I have time, I'd like to play an Amell who will recruit Loghain and exile Alistair. Besides wanting to tie her backstory to Hawke's, I really want to see if Exiled!Alistair shows up.

Beyond that, the US ending holds no charm for me. I might adjust my Cousland playthrough and marry Alistair to Anora to see if there are any differences between Ferelden rulers.

I tried to finally complete a mage playthrough to see how it'll affect DA2, but I gave it up just over halfway through. The class just bores me to tears.

Yes I am doing 1 more playthrough I have a save file for each origin but I messed up my fav (fem cousland who rules with alistair, making all the 'good' choices) as I forgot to talk to Isabella and I am hoping she will say something about meeting the warden!

No. I have no clue how someone can play through DA:O more than once. I have tried doing so five times now and can never make it beyond Ostigar.

I have three complete mage playthroughs to choose from which cover all my bases, although I'm currently half way through and still playing another just because the mage game play is so much fun.

Alodar :)

Will import my save of DAO:

City Elf, Rogue romanced Alistar.

Performed Ritual, killed Archdemon and survived.

Chose Anora as ruler -> Alistar left.

Now see there?  I have no idea how anyone can NOT playthrough at least three times!  Different aspects of the game appeal (or don't) to different people.  After the first playthrough, I play for different reasons than before.  The stor(ies) and the dialogue, climbing the OTHER classes' talent trees, playing the "Renegade" if I played the "Paragon" (and vice versa.)

Been through all the OCs to "Witch Hunt" with multiple Wardens, both genders, all origins. (Well, almost all.  Only did one Mage, so there are other races I could try there...)

Saw and heard new stuff every time!  Image IPB

[Edit:  Oh, and to answer the thread's title question:  No.  Since BioWare are doing those for me, I don't have to! Image IPB )

It pains me to know that my back story is exactly cannon to the Dalish Elf one they created.  May as well just skipped it! haha ^_^

I'm glad that my DAO save files are not much like the options provided - I mean, if I get a craving for a Dalish elf who died to end the Blight or a noble dwarf who exiled Alistair, I can just pick them off the menu. My Dalish elf was male and vanished with Morrigan, so I get to see a variation BioWare hasn't already provided.

My 'canon' is pretty much far off from those three choices, having Alistair king and married to Anora, having Loghain alive. And my Warden (alive) is a female Arcane Warrior, who is a lover of Leilana and Zevran... Considering the letters.

Yeah, made a new char (shield warrior) and gonna make an archer (never made one). I deleted my main, the "what I would do in that situation char because Hawke is going to be the new "me".

The only save I care to import into DA2 would be my mage who romanced Alistair, put him on the throne and made the Ultimate Sacrifice.

I replayed about a month ago as a male human mage who romanced Morrigan, proceeded with the ritual with her, placed Alistair as the sole ruler, Alistair killed Loghain... this might be the import I'll use first for DA2.

Heh, this is where I'm at, but only playing a good character and mostly playing the same class and origin. And I STILL haven't done all the possible things to do after a year or more than one of the romances. I have at least another year of play on the other origins and classes. That's IF I ever get tired of the one that's my favorite. I have played through the elven and mage origins, although not completed those, and started a dwarf noble, though.

No, not doing the defaults, just playing as usual. I was going to do an exiled Alistair for the DA2 gameplay of it, but now I think I may just use the default. It isn't a playthrough I think I would enjoy.

I'm not going through Origins again, but I'm getting all my completed Origins-playthroughs through Awakening and the DLC. Maybe the expansion and dlc will have no effect for DA2, but I just want them all finished.

Just 2 more playthroughs to go and all are done.

I have 8 possible imports to choose from... not going to start a new Warden, I have enough trouble choosing who to start with already. xD

I finished off a playthrough just about a month ago with the only ending I'd avoided for a year... the US. Suprisingly difficult but worth it. I will probably import my Cousland Queen first, she's my fave :)

My elf mage was a selfish racist **** and I'm gonna import him just to know how the world reacts to all his funny pranks such as leaving an entire village to die or mocking Alistair for the whole duration of the game and then kicking him out of his own throne room.
