How do Taiwan view western RPG's? The stereo type for Asia is that they disregard anything it if it isn't an MMO. Taiwan is certainly not a place I've heard much about regarding video game preferences.
Well, Taiwan has the tradition of ancient China, was ruled by Japan for many years, and was protected by US after the civil war with mainland. We here are quite open to multiple cultures. While WoW might be the most large trunk of gamers, there are also many console gamers here in Taiwan.
There have always been niche for WRPGs, from as early as Wizardry.
BG and TES made the group grow. Recent games like DA/ME/FO3 also helped a lot since the JRPGs of this generation are quite disappointing. While we still can't catch up with the number of JRPG fans, we are getting close.
