Keep in mind guys, it is only 2180s, not 2750s so do not expect TOO much high-techy enviornments. I suspect things will look less like how things look on places like Illium.

I like the crime scene one. really fits in and looks very realistic (minus the aliens of course). The second one is what BW is probably leaning to.

Is that a Collector in the sidelines? lol

The two images we have seen of Earth seem to contrast the codex I felt. Sure London and the codex city may be in a more developed region.  I however was always under the impression Earth was overpopulated and a gritty place.  The Earthborn story for Shepard also helps illustrates this.   The above pictures look like its more of a utopian world.  Towering and brilliant looking Sky scrappers and Archologies in both. Ignoring the Reapers of course in London!

To be fair, you would hardly expect the Codex picture to show anything other than a PR-type view of an earth city.

Is it just me or do people want to see more of problematic Earth worthy of what the codex has informed us.  Im just under the impression from the very few images we have seen that things in ME3 will resemble a perfect society and the only damage we will see will be from the invasion and not the problems from society.

Thats my opinion on the matter anyway.  Do others agree or would you like to see the codex image of Earth?

I agree with what you want to see, but I disagree that the images show a "perfect society".  Massive constructions are quite possible with a less-than-utopian setup and I just don't see anything in the pictures that indicates that regular life isn't overcrowded and gritty (That is we don't have a good street-level shot of what the places look like - the reaper invasion makes the London one hard to use and the other one is not detailed enough). It is quite possible for cities to look nice and beautiful from a distance and have the problems not be visible until you look on a smaller scale..  All it shows (to me) is that
A) There are areas (or at least artist renderings of areas. Given what you see in some brocures vs. real life currently, I wouldn't put any real stock in that picture.)) where the outward appearance doesn't show major signs of decay.
B) London still has open-sky ground level access.

It might also be important to remember that population growth isn't going to be uniform. Even with 12B, you are still going to have large tracts of wide-open land with different continents and countries having different concentrations of population.

In any case, If there was the chance, I would want to see the sort of earth that you get the impression of from the  Earthborn Shepard's background.  Depending on how much of earth we see pre-reaper, it may be difficult to see much of what earth was like.

Ideally I'd like to have two visits one where Earth is fine and war free and later on where it is war ridden. I'd like to return to it on my own for supplies and just because until Earth is hit.

I picture some parts of future earth looking like helghan from killzone due to climate change and then other parts looking somewhat peaceful and idyllic and then large portions being slums like city 17 with more dirt and grit.

Also the description pic for earth from me1 looks like a peicing together of the concept art for the liberty tower.

For the metropolises of New York or London, I would think they act a lot like a forest, where the canopy is brilliant and bright, but the farther down one ventures, the more slum-like it becomes.

I'm not sure how to include images (some people seem to know, so if you could let me know what html code is required, that'd be neat). I'll link the image : Link

That would fit the codex of rich/poor divide but I feel the representation there is probably a bit too visual.  Theres another good image representing that below.  Although I wouldnt like to see the extremes of that, it  represents the regional disparity which has been suggested.  Also the fact not everywhere on Earth will be a towering metropolis.

Well written.  The information we do have is of course limited so its pretty much guess work. Illium itself is beautiful in appearance but your told time again that there is a seedy underside.  Legalised Slavery/drugs for example. Thats under the surface and your told about it. Visual aid isn't strictly needed.  I think my main concern when I wrote the OP was seeing something that resembled perfect harmony like the codex image repeated across multiple Earth locations when clearly this would not be the case.  As well as good things there is alot of bad in there. Of course If we only see two major cities like London and New York then it would be irrelevant. They would be brilliant examples of Human culture and society.  More locations then the codex would come into play more. With that in mind that may constrain the types of places we go to on Earth.

I belive i read somewhere (probally wiki) that ME3 will have more of a dark storyline so it would make sense to have more dark cities.

I hope London isn't all grey and wrecked. Or at the very least there should somewhere cool and futuristic-looking on Earth that Shep should visit. I think Tokyo would be cool, if it looked all skyscrapery and hologramy, with lots of vibrant colours. And for god's sake Bioware, do NOT make America the centre of attention. It's such a cliche and the rest of the world is getting tired of it, me included.

Ooo! Have you 'eard? Bioware has decided to make America the center of attention again! :D This time, we're gonna explore San Francisco, Boston, Philadelphia, Miami, Austin, Seattle, Springfield, all the American cities you love! :D

Seriously, though. I am American and I too am tired of seeing aliens destroy my country. Just this once I want to see aliens destroy every other country (including America). Looks like ME3 is going to do that. We're all gonna die together, regardless of nationality.

Makes you feel all warm and fuzzy, eh? :3

EDIT: This DOES raise the issue of Sheperd's nationality. We all assumed that Sheperd (if we made him/her Earthborn) was from either Canada or USA (probably Canada because of the voice actors). Now that we can actually visit the Earth and potentially explore different nations, will we be hearing a British Sheperd now?

What is "liberty tower?" That isn't "concept art," those are plans/renders for 2 World Trade Center, which is beginning construction in NYC right now. I think you thought it was the "Freedom Tower" which is now called 1 World Trade Center.

I personally just want the choice to visit multiple countries. If Sheperd is restricted to just one country, I'm gonna be disappointed. Please, Bioware, don't restrict us to just America and Great Britain. They are not the only two countries on Earth.

I would like to visit them before Earth is invaded and after.

Ideally I want London in ruins (already got that), a busy, overcrowded, futuristic part of Tokyo that is like a really long corridor with all the people and places on the side and a huge motorway in the middle, some kind of beautiful utopia in somewhere like Russia, NO AMERICA (except for maybe a brief visit), and a city that doesn't exist in our time for the finale.

I hate small, cramped places. No corridors please. Give me the whole city, please.

Hate to disappoint you, mate, but there's a small chance we'll be fighting in the USA. The Reapers aren't gonna spare us Yanks, y'know. Expect at least ONE mission there. I'm hoping we won't be fighting ruined NYC, although there's a chance we will.

To me, Sci-fis about Earth makes me pause. Be it aliens or post-apocolyptic, if it's not in America, it's in Great Britain.

Please, I want none of that. Let me explore the entire damned world! Let me go to Africa, Asia, EVERYWHERE!

I'd like to see Earth get destroyed death star style half way through the game leaving Shepard and all the other humans "homeless" would add an awsome dynamic for the rest of the game and for future games in the ME universe. Plus i dont think we should be able to save everything, gets abit boring after a while .

Ha! That'd be very interesting. Just once, we actually fail to save the Earth so we have to go pick a human colony to call our new homeworld.

It could actually have potential for new Mass Effect games!

I want to visit something not clichéd. Like New Calcutta, one of Earth's wealthiest regions in ME.

And some special mention of 4 specific countries in middle-Europe would be nice :P

@Madman Well knowing Bioware there will probably be happy and sad endings.

@Liama Yeah, I expect Bioware will have a mission in America. That's OK with me I suppose, as long as it's not the most important mission in the game. Also I too would like to explore all the continents, but I wouldn't want big missions in all of them because it would probably take up half the game, which would really suck.

BTW some of the pictures on this thread are truly epic, especially the utopia ones.

Blade Runner/Sprawl Trilogy style. A lot of dirt, dust, japanese names, crime, corporations and if possible slums on todays' popular and rich areas.
