Didn't phase me as weird at all. Never bothered to read the codex though... x)

Codex is all nice & dandy, but they shouldn't make up stuff like this to prevent such situations from happening. Props for so much work as it adds to immersion, but just keep it simple imo instead of giving it some complicated method.

Right.. like a touch screen needs a stylus. Funny, Avina didn't need to be touched to react to you, nor vigil, nor that research facility system on Noveria. Different systems can use different input systems.

All an unsecured elevator button needs is a proximity sensor or equivalent.

The only contradiction is treating a codex entry as all inclusive......

I don't see why it couldn't have a simple redundant system. I doubt 100% of the population has either the gloves or implants, so making it required to operate an elevator seems ridiculous.

Imagine if crosswalks could only be operated by flashing your driver's license...

Thane's mission forearm button bash
...skip to 9:46 or so if you don't care about the rest of it. And...
Opening Grunt's tube
1 minute 41 in the vid, safer to skip to about 1:38.

As at very least part of the hand hits the interface in #1... the elbow argument i'm not sure about.

The built-in implants question with #2... well, how else does Shepard open any door or operate the research terminals for example with a costume that hasn't got gloves when on the Normandy?

...anyway, carry on everyone. just wanted to provide videos for those who, like me, weren't paying attention to these holographic buttons.

Edit: apologies for reposting the elevator button punching... ah well, if nothing else makes it a micron easier to find both.

Pretty minor inconsistency. and as a couple of posters have so helpfully explained, it probably isn't an inconsistency at all.

get a grip pwner.

Why would you be required to bring your computer gloves with you to ride the elevator? That seems kinda dumb. Maybe elevators just use a less accurate but more robust interface method.

Then so is opening practically every single door in the entire @#$%ing game.

Huge? It seems pretty small to me. Yes, it's annoying, but huge would be more like a retcon on the scale of the Genesis comics.

Maybe Shepard is a magician. An illusionist. Maybe she (he) never really died after all! Maybe it was just a clever trick!

First of all, he uses his fist, not his elbow. I've watched that cutscene literally more than a dozen times and he always uses his fist.

Second, as many, many others have posted using deductive reasoning, just because the Codex says that some holographic interfaces use physical input systems like gloves doesn't mean that they all do.

Hell, just look at Microsoft's Kinect and PixelSense, neither of which use physical input like capacitive touch screens but instead light (of varying wavelengths). There are more than one way to achieve the same end.

Also, the Codex isn't necessarily the final word on any matter. Often times, in game cannon conflicts with the Codex and sometimes the codex conficts with itself. For instance, the Codex entry regarding the Reapers states that they are a myth when in fact, based on the Games, they aren't.

Another example would be some of the voice overs for entries conflicting with the text.

The Codex is not a history or an encyclopedia, it is a rough, error filled gathering of information. A courtesy, nothing more.

ok, so if I'm understanding correctly, your issue is with Shepard being able to activate holographic interface without wearing gloves/touching the interface with fingers?

except from the very beginning of ME - we see several crewmembers using those controls with gloveless fingers...then we see Joker and Kaidan do same...and various other characters through the game...and it continues into ME2.

yes, there's an inconsistency here. Between Codex entry and game in general, not between parts of the game and just one mission. My theory is that the codex was written the same way back cover blurbs for paperbacks are written...by people who haven't actually read the books/played the game but were given a general overview, so they made it up as they went along.

Good job reading the codex entry that is quoted in full by the OP, specifically the bit about implants.

Haptic interfaces have become so common that some individuals undergo cybernetic enhancement surgery to have the accelerometers implanted in their fingertips. "Going bareskin" is the sign of a committed computer user who no longer has to fuss with putting on gloves or cleaning them with alcohol wipes to get rid of the clammy-hand smell.

I think that's by design.  The way I see it, Bioware has the Codex set up to have the information appear as if it were gathered by actual in game sources, i.e. data on things such as the Reaper are provided by officials of the Citadel or Alliance or some such.

Care to point out where is specifcally states Joker has undergone this procedure?
Besides which, not every shiney light interface has to be haptic style. We have something similar, right here, right now.

I think we can safely assume that Joker counts as a "committed computer user", although it wouldn't matter if he wasn't. I'd imagine that the Alliance would probably make all their recruits who would use haptic interfaces often undergo the process. If a haptic interface is somehow better or more efficient, then obviously you'd want your pilots, engineers, etc. to be able to use them without gloves.

... We went to pinnacle stations and we fought holograms that seemed pretty real. All because they used kinetic projectors to make the bullets seem real... and to make the foes feel real.

A simple holographic figure supported by a kinetic projector will feel like one of those glass surfaces that we got today where you project the screen of a computer.

Come on guys... put some imagination. its holographic... who is to say is not supported with a kinetic project of some sort to make it feel a bit more real to the touch.

Accelerometers in Shep's armor. "Hard" holograms like Pinnacle Station, etc. There's any number of reasons.

You're really grasping at straws lately, Pwner.
