So, not sure which forum is the appropriate place for my suggestion, but here goes --

(moderator, please move the thread to the proper forum if it's not supposed to be here)

I would like to see Bioware convert one of the original Baldur's Gate/ Icewind Dale/ Sword Coast games to iPad or iPhone 4.  A top-down 2D environment (that formerly used the Infinity Engine) would be easily handled by Apple's A4 processor, which clocks around 1Ghz and has been proven to be able to handle 3D gaming.  Games could sell for $9.99 or so in the iTunes store without any added costs of having to include guide manuals/ DVD discs/ packaging, etc.

Not sure how the liability/ cooperation agreement with defunct Black Isle Studios would affect re-creation of the old games.

Would be fun for once to play a game on the iPad/ iPhone that requires an attention span of more than 3 minutes.

And would be kinda cool to start that same old journey again from Candlekeep to the Friendly Arm Inn...

Certainly not a bad idea not sure where this suggestion might fit though as this store forum is intended for physical merchandise not games.

Yeah, definitely wrong forum (*points@ BG/NwN forums*), but I agree with Sten (and others) anyways, and would predict that the other forum would shoot down the idea as well. The D&D virtual series has always been well received on PC and never really appreciated on consoles, much less handhelds...much much less smartphones. And considering how much time it would take to make the port, and the cost of the workhours (and licences - since I'm fairly sure most are owned by Atari atm), they probably wouldn't make a profit anyways...

Okay, maybe a moderator can move it to the BG forums...

I didn't think Baldur's Gate would be good for the iPad either, until I realized it wasn't that much different than these two iPad games --

Dungeon Hunter would probably be the most similar, although it uses a 3D graphics engine instead of an Infinity-style 2D engine, which would be much less taxing on the iPad's resources..

And there is clearly a market for these games -- Dungeon Hunter and Dungeon Hunter 2 have sold over 1 million at $4.99 or so, each.

People saying no? Really?

I used to think like that until I actually played iPhone games properly (amazing for killing time when flying!). I think it's a great idea! Graphics shouldn't be a problem either.

maybe not for iphone. but one of the classic old bioware rpg´s would be awesome for Ipad, gives me one more reason to buy one of those.

Would love to play Baldurs gate with touchscreen.
