I'm not against non intrusive DRM, if you want me to authenticate once after punching in the serial key to my online account and then needing a disk to play that's fine. if you wanted me to dial home every X day that is not fine, it's annoying and potentially game breaking god forbid another flood sweeps through Queensland again.

again I would have thought EA learnt a leason when Spore become the number 1 pirated game for the year, people didn't even download to play it, they downloaded to show EA that their game got cracked and that the DRM sucked

YES!  That is exactly what I've been trying to say.  You say it so much better than I do.

I'm not saying DRM prevents piracy, so stop assuming that.  What I'm saying is that everyone here seems to be arguing suggesting that there be no DRM.  No DRM means there will be many...many more pirates since rather than minor protection, there is none.

And I am saying that is not true.  I am saying DRM does not stop any piracy, it does not create any sales.  Do you have any facts that show DRM increases sales?  Like I said, I doubt it.

Do you have any facts to show that less DRM doesn't increase piracy and/or decreases sales?  Until facts are presented to the contrary, the status quo will remain the same.

So again, no DRM at all is just stupid.

Some of us are not saying no drm. but at least they could drop the periodic on-line check because it is useless

With the way some people are posting, it sounds like they want no DRM, or the removal of the elements that verify the integrity of the install files.

Generally pirated copies are not lost sales. Those people wouldn't have bought it anyway. I would wager more sales are lost to people buying secondhand from gamestop than via piracy.

I'd still like to know if the authentication server will be up at 0001 hours easter march 11...honestly it should go up the day before so be it if a few people get a day jump start.

You're conveniently overlooking the fact that 2dBoy (the makers of World of Goo) said the piracy rate was almost exactly what they'd have expected even if they had used DRM.

No one is saying no DRM = no piracy (at least, i don't think anyone is that naive). But DRM doesn't reduce it at all.

i agree but i must say that having DRM like UBI or ME 1 had, or DA2 will have may very well incrase in cracks and illegal downloads ...i know i do it to.
But i do LIKE to BUY games really i do:wizard: but i dont see my self EVER buying a game that constantly asking me if i am a pirate just NO
No no no no
I will force me to the Dark side ... with no question !

Nope but you claimed it had been completely uncracked which was nonsense.

Frankly the only DRM I see reducing piracy is a basic disc check. And it stops casual piracy (the whole give to friend and let them download on their comp and we both play game at same time variety). After that it usually gets annoying. (Though a one time internet connection to verfiy is fine with me. A constant internet though is...frustrating. Because I have to lean out of a window to get a decent internet connection in my neighborhood.)

Do you have a computer and internet connection?

Here play DA2

Do you have an internet connection but don't like the DRM

Here download a crack

So many choices! It's like I'm playing a Bioware game!

Well thanks for the info ... cancelling my pre-order now, I'll buy it when the DRM-Free version gets released, even if I have to wait years for it to show up on GOG or something like that ...

Mmm, people who pirate a game would probably buy it if pirating was off of the table.  Just like people who would buy it would take it for free if it were that easy.

I will give it to poeple that the requirement of logging into the EA servers every few days does seem a little bit pushy, but still, who doesn't have an internet connection these days, or if you have a crappy connection once a week?  I try to think of it as the renewal of a web cookie.  I log into the EA servers every time I play a game, so it doesn't matter to me, but atleast people who are arguing against this attribute of the DRM have some good logic behind it.

Cracks usually bring extra problems. Black map and overheating from ME1, whatever in Arkham Asylum. If this DRM stays I´ll probably wait for GotY price drop.

the drm doesnst bother me since i want to be logged in for the achievements to go to my profile and stuff anyway. i just think drm is generally a silly waste of time that only affects the customers not pirates.

wait this came from EA

"Stepping aside from the whole issue of DRM, people need to recognize that every BitTorrent download doesn't represent a successful copy of a game, let alone a lost sale," she tells Gamasutra."

lol so what's EA's argument for DRM then? oh wait this what 2008 and 2011 is a whole new game?

If DRM worked then companies would shout it to the rooftops.  Ubisoft wouldn't stop talking about how since Assassin's Creed 2 was uncracked for a month or so their sales tripled.  They would not shut up about it.

The absence of such comments is evidence in itself.

Talk about a comprehension fail.

Do you know what the word "casual." means?

Particularly in that statement?

It's not because of the online activation that the crack was delayed it's because of triggers, and those doesn't needs online activation, a basic CD-checks would have obtained exactly the same results. (Like what happened for Batman AA)
