Forced pop-ups on loading the page is not a good thing. Your page is already so picture heavy that crappy internet conections hate your pare. Adding an unavoidable pop-up dose not help things at al.

Unless you mean AJAX popups, when opening a video/images, i dont have either.
The site is pretty heavy, true, but its desing isn't bad, i guess they focused on visual style, not performance.
