It seems pretty simple a concept to me: most people want to romance the young and attractive characters and Bioware has so far stuck pretty well to that them. Garrus is the only straying from it I can think of.Calla S wrote...
I don't even know how to properly speak to people who don't understand that a dwarf could possibly be a love interest. It's like some foreign concept akin to First Contact or something of that nature.
Heck, I can't think of a dwarf love interest in any fantasy media at all, be it books, games, movies or comics.
Let's not forget we could end up with a terminally ill Drell (Thane). And while Tali was, albeit, a young woman, she was still an alien that, to this date, no one knows the official appearance of.
Anyway, people are keen to forget that in the very first KOTOR, you could play a female Jedi and end up with the Cat-ish woman Juhani. Very obscure LI, but it was there. As we branch out with a bisexual male elf, a straight dwarf doesn't seem too alien anymore.

The warnings of David Gaider sounded like Merrill won't be a LI.
Aveline could be a very interesting LI. First you would have to help her overcome her mourning and then she slowly starts to develop feelings for Hawke. That sound too good, to be true.

Could be but remeber there's the "Virginal Girl Next Door" statement. Aveline didnt really fit the picture.

Then, who could be the virginal girl next door, then? Possibly another yet-to-be announced companion?

I hope Aveline won't be a love interest, because she was previously married, I would feel bad, either you kill the husband or you watch and then seduce his widow...I don't want her to live the rest of her life alone, but not with Hawke. I hope she is more of a mother figure.
I do like Fenris and Merril, I prefer romance before sex, so I'm not sure about Isabella, she seems like she could be carrying a lot of STDs.

I don't want Varric as bi Li, people are complaining about Fenris being bisexual because of the elf thing, but Varric seems much more like Zevran and I want to romance a warrior once instead of a rogue. I like Varric, but I don't find him attractive.

You appear quite conflicted. Personally, I didn't like the romances much in Origins, and I found only Alistair's romance to be tolerable enough. Morrigan's wasn't bad either.

Isabella is a given LI for both guys and girls. Anyone who has played DA can vouch on their own.
Varric being the narrator might make him off limits, but since(I think) his narration varies on your actions, I don't think him being in that role prevents romance. Personally, I want him to be the M/M Li but I can see him being a FLI.
Aveline was/is a widow, so I doubt you'll get much action from her unless she's like Samara; incredibly focused on her goals and past preventing her to love again. She'd be a MLI
Fenris' history gives me pause. He was both a slave and an experiment which also might prevent him from being a LI(the Lyrium tats cause him to feel pain when touching others) so he's probably to "cold" for love, unless Bioware does something to him like ManShep can love Jack out of sympathy for her past. Being a FLI or to my chagrin, the M/M LI looks possible.
Merril is the "Girl Next Door", she reminds me of Tali. If she is a companion and if she is a romance, she'll definitely be a MLI or F/F LI if Isabella isn't.
Lastly there's "Anders" who we know nothing about and Sebastian. "Anders", if anything, might be the M/M LI if no one else is. Sebastian is DLC so him being a LI is unlikely.
Thoughts? Comments? Death-threats by the fandom? I love it all

Didn't David Gaider say that she was desribing tropes not describing any particular charactors sexual history? I'll see if I can find quote.
Edit:
"Err... I'm assuming this is because there's voiceover that says this when Merrill is on-screen?
Just a word of caution not to see the two as being related-- sometimes they are, though not in the way you might think. You're free to believe what you like, however, all I'm saying is not to make assumption based on that alone. " ~David Gaider
"Er... Jennifer was talking archetype, not describing the actual sexual history of any of the characters." ~ Mary Kirby
arhetype, that was the word.

I really hope they don't make Fenris bi. I have nothing against same sex relationships but we just got a bisexual elf with light hair, dark skin and a "mysterious past" in Origins. IF Bioware really wants to break the mold and try a new twist on the fantasy genre, make someone besides an elven character bisexual please.
Varric would be a good candidate.

You can vote for anyone. I voted for Lady Hawke, which is also wrong. The poll is not assuming that you are Hawke, so how should it be wrong to vote for anyone?

I don't blame the person who put it on the poll. I blame the people who actually want to have a sexual relationship with their sister. Even if it is just a video game it's still sick.

I remember that, yes. But Mr. Gaider would be hard-pressed to explain why they showed a shot of Merrill in that trailer the same moment the words "virginal girl next door" were mentioned.
Perhaps he was talking about someone else? I find it hard to believe that there could be a completely unannounced female companion that might fit that description, and that they were simply using Merrill as a placeholder.
I think Mr. Gaider was just trying to dissuade us from adopting certain pre-conceived notions. But, to me, at this point in time, Merrill is still the "virginal girl next door."

There was a lot of talk about that when the game was announced. Quite a few people wanted incest in the game, but BioWare shut down all of those requests. There were at least 15-20 threads on the subject before they were all closed.
Don't blame people for sick minds, it's a video game, people want to be able to do stuff that they normally can't do.

I agree, that seems like a far less obvious choice and would likely be more interesting to write out from a writer's perspective.

I don't see what 'fairness' has do to with anything. Offering DLC at all is 'unfair' to some people, that doesn't make them stop offering it. I fear Sebastian won't be an LI because he's a DLC and they haven't done it before, but I'm still holding out hope that he is. Tough luck for people who can't get the DLC, but nothing is ever 100% fair.
Agreed, completely, but you lost me at the next part...
That said, I think we have plenty of reasons for why he won't be an LI, unfortunately. For one, he's a prince. That caused problems with Alistair's romance for anyone who wasn't Cousland.
Not really--it only caused problems if you made him a king (and all that didn't change the fact that you could have a romance with Alistair). Also, why should we assume that Seb's circumstances will be identical to Alistair's? I can already think of some significant differences between the two.
For another, isn't he also a member of the Chantry? That makes me think he's going to be like Samara, teasing us with temptation before finally deciding his faith and vows are more important to him.
That possible, but IIRC only priestesses have to take actual vows of chastity.
