Single player is fun, but for how long?

I was always under the impression that different game types existed to fill different desires among the players. There is no wonder game that fills every niche and quite frankly there shouldn't be; how boring would that be to only play one game? When I want to play with other people I play Aion (or whatever I happen to have a subscription to at the time) and when I want to play alone I pick up DA:O or any other single player game I have.
Yes. And Aion/WoW/etc. fulfill the MMO urge better than a hacky DA:O multiplayer ever would. I think there's a place in the current market for a multiplayer, but not MMO, RPG or action RPG - but DA:O would at best make a hacky mutiplayer game. Why invest the time to make it multiplayer and compromise the single player due to lack of development resources when Diablo III or Sacred 2 or some such game scratched the vast majority of people's multiplayer RPG itch better than a hybrid multiplayer/singleplayer DA:O would?

Baldur's Gate
Neverwinter Nights
All epic RPGs
All single-player with multi-player functionality
WoW is not the first multiplayer game, folks; not buying the "boo-hoo go play WoW" retort.

Baldur's gate multiplayer was hacky; people loved it, but Bioware would never allow such a partially implemented feature into one of its games nowadays. This is straight from the devs.
Neverwinter nights and Diablo II were cool mostly for the multiplayer; neither were anywhere near as epic in the amount of content as DA:O or BG2. I mean, the Neverwinter Nights campaign was basically a long toolset demo.
It's much smarter to make a game that focuses on being excellent at all that it does. It is not feasible to make a game that will recoup its expenses that has the multiplayer fn and functionality of Diablo II and the deep single player campaign of DA:O.

I certainly don't understand the vitriolic behaviour of people towards any desire of multiplayer. If one doesn't enjoy something themselves, it doesn't mean others should not get it.

Can we have just this one? Is it too much to ask?
Dragon Age, as it stands just wouldn't work as a multiplayer experience, it's all about coordinated strategy. Fighters protecting Mages who are, basically doing all the work, Rogues are basically keys that can set up traps (which is an entirely single player endeavour), this works only when taken as a whole. Similarly there's an awful lot of work gone into crafting an intricate story which really only works with one player making the decisions, this wouldn't translate into a multiplayer environment.
So if you want multiplayer play WoW. Or Diablo II, or Neverwinter Nights 1 or 2 or DDO, or Aion or Left 4 Dead, or Modern Warfare, or Team Fortress 2 or Dawn of War or Company of Heroes, or wait for Diablo III or Bioshock 2. But don't demand one of the only games designed for those of us who like a single player experience every now and then be turned into yet another multiplayer title.

You really have no right to tell people to shut up and bugger off to another game rather than voice their desires, even if they will not be answered by Bioware. It's not as though you or people who prefer singleplayer spent more on the game or deserve to be listened to while anyone else should be muzzled.
That kind of behaviour is very silly, it seems to espouse something of a yes-man thought process towards developers. You can only go along with the flock, you can never speak any dissenting opinions that go against the grain otherwise you should go and leave. Bioware isn't going to be influenced by the rabble of plebians on a forum, but they have a right to speak their minds.

I personally applaud Bioware for developing an epic single player game. There a few such games on the market now, as opposed to the many games out there that cater to the MP gamer. Don't begrudge us single player gamers our rare moment of glory.
I fully agree with the above statement. I have played alot of mmo's along with some co-op games and I must say that I have mostly enjoyed them. However, every so often it is good to loose yourself in a game that is focused soley on the single player experience and not have to deal with the baggage that any mmo game, no matter how good, always has.
It is for this reason that I still play games like Fallout 1 & 2, Divine Divinity, Morrowind etc. Dragon Age will still be in my collection and will be played long after I have become burned out or disillusioned with mmo games.
More power to Bioware for creating this and long may they continue to make epic single player games (though if you could hurry up with TOR that would be great too

Dont you think that such a wonderfull game world, the engine and stuff could use some breath of multiplayer?
No, would be my short answer. I have always preferred single player games. The only multi-player i have played in RPGs and ARPG's have been 2 player co-op.

Adding multiplayer to DA:O would give Bioware's people a lot of headaches. I agree on adding multiplayer to this great game, but from a technical point of view I admit that isn't very likely that we'll see any multiplayer on this game, considering that this game has Xbox and PS3 ports. Adding multiplayer in a game like this on PC could happen, but then console gamers would get angry, and not without reason. I'm sure Bioware would like to give us multiplayer, but can they? Changing the core of a game to add such a huge function is not easy, not to mention that probably Microsoft and Sony have their own policies about what multiplayer functionality can or cannot be added to their systems...
IMHO multiplayer could happen, but I wouldn't bet on it. Just my 2 cents
PS: Sorry about my english, probably the grammar is horrible!

Ah... that won't happen either I fear, multiplayer and "this game is too hard!" threads will pop constantly on this forum, and there's nothing we can do to stop them

That being said, it would be uber nifty with multiplayer ala nwn style. As long as they don't tinker with the story <.<

What the hell is up with the "If you want multiplayer play WoW" attitude. Have you never played NWN?
I absolutely did. Single player. It blew chunks. It was a watered down experience whose only saving grace was its toolset. If that game had shipped as a complete uneditable game it would have been remembered as one of the biggest disappointments of CRPG history(right next to Project Ego/Fable).
