"This has to be one of the worst PR events for a AAA game I have ever seen. Lets just go ahead and list some of these bad boys out shall we?
1. Put little flyers in all of our games stating something awesome would happen 02/01/2011. This was just over a year ago.
2. Announced they had begun work on DA 2. This is about 6 months after DA:O came out
3. Released some of the worst screen shots for new game ever
4. Started talking about "Fighting like a Spartan and thinking like a General." When asked what this meant both the PR department and developers had no idea... and then kept repeating it. Everywhere.
5. Started talking about "hot-rodding" the art style. This is also about the same time they started bashing DA:O. Saying it was generic, slow paced, too hard, not action packed enough, confusing.
6. Unleashed the developers/writers to go and talk freely about the up coming game on the message boards. They did little to quell any concerns and seemed more interested in banning people and starting flame wars.
7. Released an image depicting "Different Standards of Beauty" depicting the new art style and what the redesigned races would look like. They then wiped out the new dwarves and female Qunari models as they "ran out of time" to implement them in the game. This was like 4 months ago. Plenty of time for them to know they were not going to appear in the game. So why release it? Not to mention the "different standards of beauty" are all slim well toned women with hour glass figures and beefy men. Not too ground breaking there.
8. Released a demo version of the first area to be played at game conventions. Then went ballistic when those stupid gamers started talking about how they turned DA into a hack and slash.
9. Started freaking out when people were talking about how bad the graphics and animations were. Claimed that absolutely everything shown was from a pre-Alpha build and would not be indicative of the actual game. Kept freaking out about the hack and slash talk.
10. Reacted to the hack and slash uproar by... bashing Origins more. Claiming the pace was far too slow and console gamers didn't enjoy not slamming on buttons to make things happen. Also stating that most console gamers found it to be too hard to switch to different characters. Stated the new game would be able to be completed on Normal difficulty with out having to change characters or set up the other party members tactics.
11. Realizing this was the exact opposite of what they should have said, they then started claiming that it played exactly like Origins. Released a video of the new combat system.... which looked exactly like their "pre-Alpha don't worry this isn't how the game will be guys" demo. Showed that it is still possible to pause the game but there is no longer a reason to as we had just seen them run in without using any tactics at all and destroy the same group of enemies with no consequence except for losing a bit more health.
12. Banner ad appears in a news letter stating that a demo will be released 02/01/2011. Is this the great thing they were talking about on those little sheets in the original game?!
13. NOPE! But instead of quieting the rumors and letting everyone know it was just a mistake or some hacker or something, they let it ride! No publicity is bad publicity!
14. Turns out the big announcement they kept screaming about for 02/01/2011 was a closed Beta test for a Facebook game.... that they had already announced.... months before.... that won't even be ready until the actual game is already out.
Feel free to add any others that you guys can think of. I have more but this getting long. NEVER CHANGE BIOWARE PR TEAM!"
I find myself nodding to this
