I hope they put a card with a date in DA2's box. lol

i'd love if they poked some fun at us with a leaflet in the box. of course that could confuse anyone who isn't on this forum, but heck, i'd just love to see bioware people react with a bit of humor to this, just as some (many?) of us are

So people are angry they didn't get told their speculation was wrong? When has Bioware made a habit of that?

it was not about speculationh, it was about a screw up from EA that should have been professionally dealt with

The whole accidental banner thing could easily have been stomped out with a simple "sorry folks, the ad graphics team screwed up. We fixed it now though"
To say nothing, shop it out, then specify that you can neither confirm or deny a demo... that's just milking nerd tears to feed Gaider is all that is. =]

I hope people have learned their lessons today.
1) Don't hype yourselves up for something that's not promised to you.
2) Lack of denial of something is not the same thing as confirmation of something.
3) Sometimes there are bad announcements. That's when we act like adults, deal with it, and move on with our day.

I would put this in my signature if I didn't feel like it would just be doing the same thing as those who are putting 02.01.11 just to troll people, and being an upset child.  Awesome post anyway.

Agreed.

Registering an apathy vote. I don't care and can't believe all the fuss. The game'll be out in a month.

Thank you for changing the name, more appropriate now that they are routing all the locked posts here.

ETA: I am certainly disappoint with the announcement today as well as the way the aftermath was handled by the devs, and I will admit for a time I was even OUTRAEG but I think it has gotten a little out of hand and we should focus on calming the nerd rage and try to get a legit response from the devs, if that is even possible at this point.

A lot of spam, name-calling, spam, insults, bickering, and lots more spam. Folks, let's try and keep this discussion civil and on-topic. Many warnings handed out, and they're only warnings because we know this is a contentious topic and want to give you leave to vent. But please don't take advantage of our temporary lenience on enforcing our Site Rules. Thank you.

I'm not in marketing or nothin' so I don't wanna tell you how to do your job but, just FYI, the entire Internet is laughing at you.

Glad to know you are all above us in social ladder of life. Now, if you have nothing more productive about the feedback of the actual Bioware annoucement made today, please refrain from posting. Your criticisms of others is counter-productive to the purpose of this thread. Thank you.:)

I really doubt it. I think, though, the publisher is responsible for marketing and that would be the big bad; EA.

Why don't you just lock the thread?  If you don't it is just going to devolve into a rage thread that is filled with spam.  That is the only course for it to run.

I think it has already done that to be honest, and it seems it is starting to make its way back to normality. Hopefully with a little more time everyone can calm down.

I second this. What angers me is more the complete lack of response regarding the screw-up. Could we at least have an explanation of what happened?

seriously. company policy might be "keep your hands out of rumours and fanrage" but it has been proven right here on this forum time and time again that that doesn't work and makes everythign worse.
during the bazaar fiasco we got a completely official-like apology letter thing post. that wasn't good either btw.

Justifying Bioware's silence on the matter by saying they don't comment on rumor/speculation doesn't really seem applicable in this case.

It wasn't some anonymous internet poster or a random gaming site that started the rumor. EA sent out the newsletter, which stated(in three languages, no less) there was a demo out for DA2... That is not a rumor -- it's straight from the horse's mouth.

I'm not angry. I don't think Bioware slapped us in the face, or betrayed us. That said, by remaining silent I think they were inviting disappointment. Upon realizing the apparent error, Bioware should have at least told us we were barking up the wrong tree.

Oh well -- life(and waiting) goes on.

An announcement for a (wider cast net for a) Facebook game closed beta is not "something cool". I didn't expect a demo, honestly I didn't expect anything at all, but BW promised awesomesauce and by staying hush about the demo-promising banners the day before deliberately allowed hopes to build up.

I would have been totally fine with them admitting it were a projected release date they knew they couldn't meet. It would have been far from the first time in the industry. But no, they had to hype and now their marketing has bitten them in their collective behind once more and them and the BDF are acting all sanctimonious and BioWare is throwing around bans with far less lenience than they grant raging bigots. Same old, same old.
