To say nothing, shop it out, then specify that you can neither confirm or deny a demo... that's just milking nerd tears to feed Gaider is all that is. =]

just out of curiosity do you consider their handling of the situation professional at all?

I'm on the fence. I think it could have been handled better than it was but I don't think I'd go so far as to say the response has been entirely unprofessional.
I think the unprofessional moment came in EA not doing any real damage control when the bad banners went out.

So the BIG ANNOUNCEMENT that Bioware felt the need to advertise with a flyer in DAA, was, infact, an announcement for a facebook game that virtually no one can play yet...wow...

Oh no it's better then that. The game was already announced weeks ago. What they announced today was the beta simply entered another stage of beta!

Well this sucks, I'm back and still no demo. Have they said anything?

yes there is no demo, the announcement was that Legends has moved from dark beta to closed beta

lovely, I don't care about that. Oh well, I guess a demo right before midterms wasn't going to be a good mix anyhow.

I hope people have learned their lessons today.
1) Don't hype yourselves up for something that's not promised to you.
2) Lack of denial of something is not the same thing as confirmation of something.
3) Sometimes there are bad announcements. That's when we act like adults, deal with it, and move on with our day.

I would put this in my signature if I didn't feel like it would just be doing the same thing as those who are putting 02.01.11 just to troll people, and being an upset child.  Awesome post anyway.

Agreed.

Glad to know you are all above us in social ladder of life. Now, if you have nothing more productive about the feedback of the actual Bioware annoucement made today, please refrain from posting. Your criticisms of others is counter-productive to the purpose of this thread. Thank you.:)

I'm not trying to insult anyone, I'm just trying to get people to realize that they should be upset at themselves rather than BioWare. BioWare promised us one thing today: an announcement. They gave us one thing today: an announcement. I understand thinking the announcement kind of sucks, that's how I feel. But I don't blame BioWare for giving us something that doesn't live up to the hype that some members of the community built up over themselves. People being upset right now feel that they're entitled to something more than what they got, which I hate to say, but they aren't.

I'm not THAT upset, just a teeny tiny bit disappointed.....I mean, some people are right about all of the hype being built up for this date and a beta that is already out is announced today....I mean, I would've accepted a new Dev Diary, or some extended gameplay of the class, or even a new trailer....it's just a bit disappointing, thats all

I don't dispute that. But this time, they have really screwed up, and the ME2 marketing wasn't too hot either. What I'm saying is that possibly (I'm not sure about my statement regarding marketing) EA should be considered the problem here, rather than Bioware.

That is possible. I guess this might be basically an experiment?

Possibly investigating more efficient ways of producing forumite tears for Mr Gaider to consume? :P

I find it funny how you all seem to think that Bioware has just made some royal mistake because a leaflet they put out a year ago, likely thinking Dragon Age 2 would be complete by then, or considering the promise of "two years of DLC content" it may even be announced or teased around this point.

But hey, clearly everyone is angry about this, because you're such an unbiased sample....

Let's face it, whomever is the lead for the dragon age team is doing a terrible job of getting anyone interested in the game, and now I am questioning the actual quality if we are 2 weeks from the game going gold and we have no substantial gameplay, and do not even know who all the characters are, let alone have videos for any...how can the DA team be so half-ass compared to ME team with regards to quality and Marketing? I mean ME announces DLC and DA2 announces game closed to the public...

As one of the offended, that would only make things worse. There's nothing they can say that would assuage us. The most they can do is bow and scrape for our forgiveness, and they're above that--they shouldn't have to. Even if I'm mad.

Eh, at least trying to explain the nature of the situation wouldn't be a terrible thing, IMO. Its the lack of communication thats annoying, as for months, the nature of the Awakening card was treated like it was some super secret thing worth keeping under wraps for close to a year when it seems to have been an announcement of a closed beta for a facebook game already in beta? And then letting the demo thread go crazy when they possibly knew there would be no demo today?

I mean, I don't know who would be in charge of releasing the info, but this stuff, combined with how the BioWare Bazaar announcement was handled, just makes it seem like the marketing is terribly aloof and out of touch with the expectations of the fans. You're not going to please everyone naturally, but I don't think you'll be finding many people fist pumping and cheering because the Awakening card was for a closed beta of a facebook game laready in beta. I mean, come on.

When March 8th comes around nobody will care about today anyways. As much as I would have loved a demo or an announcement, it doesn't change the fact that the game comes out in a little over a month.

It seems.... dumb.  The baseless thinking is that 2/1 was the oringinal release day but they stealth delayed DA2 and are simply filling the promise with Legends.  That at least =makes sense.=  Cause otherwise... it's like WTF?  All this buzz to let us know about a game we can't play?  WTH?

It would have been better to have merely stated that the leaflet was innaccurate as soon as this was realised then, rather than invent some excuse. To be honest, though, I'm more angered by the way they just left rumours of a demo circulate rather than explain it was a screw-up.

And we still didn't even get to hear femHawke. A little trailer or something new to talk about would have been nice. I am disappoint.

I agree with you, I merely think it is irresponsible of Bioware not to deal with this dicussion with some care. Whether it being defending themselves, apologizing, or making recompense. Any will do for those who are irriated, I imagine.

i agree. bioware here is just following protocol. sounds professional to me. Being a part of EA they can't just decide to do damage control as they see fit so it just comes down to "wait until everybody cools down and then forget about it, unless EA says otherwise"

The journalists were playing the entire game, which is the "demo" that the person in that thread wanted released. So I said, yes, THAT demo would be coming out... on Mar. 8th.

Our release date.

And you didn't refute this earlier why????

This is the thing that's annoying.  I can live without the demo... it boggles me that they didn't hop in and say "Not a demo, no comment on the banners we emailed you, got something else cool coming."

I have to admit that although I wouldn't have cared too much for a demo either way, I am somewhat disappointed in BW for letting people get excited for something that wasn't going to happen when they were perfectly able to dismiss the rumors.

There's also a lot of outrage about some of the mock outrage. Oh sure some of it's real but a bunch of the more extreme stuff isn't.

I know I'm coming to the party late, but . . . . Legends? Really? THAT'S what you had in mind a year ago with that flyer?

Ummm, fire your marketing team. Quickly.

And we would've still complained and been meh about the FB game annoucement but it wouldn't have been nearly as explosive/entertaining as this thread has been so far :wizard:
