I'm just sort of continually baffled by decisions made by the PR and marketing guys responsible for this game, whoever they might be. I can't really think of a worse way to handle this situation than how it actually went down. So I'll just sit here, being puzzled. Not that typing this will accomplish anything. I have a feeling the marketing team is avoiding this thread like the plague (easy to do since "feedback" is quarantined here). Sigh.

They basically just told us that, a year ago, they made a decision to announce on a spcific date that they would be testing their FB game.
Yay?
If they just came out and said that was supposed to be DA2's release date, that would help. Cause if they seriously plunked that ambiguous card in Awakening with the intent to have it hype a second stage of a spinoff facebook game, then their marketing is....ummm....lets say, special.

This would be applicable if they didn't keep announcing that 02-01-2011 was some big, secret date. But they did. So someone decided something.

I wonder if we should be getting hyped for the actual game or not. I mean, the whole deal is "push a button and something awesome happens" right? And if Legends beta is their idea of awesome, well...

Except that it does? Legends is the prequel to DA2. It even has stuff that unlocks to DA2.

I think a couple of months ago in a post Chris Priestly stated that 2-1-11was in fact originally supposed to be the release date for DA2, but then it was pushed back until March. However, he also said it would still be a very happy day for DA fans. This the reason why I think people are miffed. I received an invite to the closed beta for DA Legends on Jan 13th. I'm not so sure why this was the announcement, when DAL was announced weeks ago and even has its own thread.I honestly thought it was going to be the release of the anime they were talking about or a cool preview or something. I'm gonna see if I dig up the old post.

While you are correct in the most technical sense, it's almost like starting the wrong line of insults with someone and truly believing you won't get punched in the face. If the rumors had been squashed, this reaction would have been fine, but you cannot do something that blatantly comes across as baiting a negative reaction, and then act shocked when you get that negative reaction. Anger is probably the most natural human reaction, and to hold people accountable for things said in an anger that you created...well its kind of petty. To be fair, I understand the reaction if the anger doesn't come to an end, but after less than a day it won't be out of anyone's systems. I know its not out of mine yet...Dave of Canada wrote...

This is very upsetting. Stick to your own rules. Things you dont like to hear bioware should not be considered "Spam"
I'm disappointed as well by the marketing, though just because people are disappointed / upset / angry doesn't mean the rules disappeared. Yelling, screaming and insulting is still against the rules and should be enforced.
Hell, half these banned people I've talked with understand what they were doing is against the rules and regreted their course of action when they calmed down.
They aren't victims of prosecution for no reason.
Yes, I am aware. No need to repeat it ad nauseum. The point is that somewhere in their marketing team, the left hand does not know what the right hand is doing, and vice versa. Somewhere there is a supervisor who has unbelievably poor team coordination/communication skills.Saibh wrote...

With what we know, and has been said, I know it's some sort of mess-up--but a planned one that failed in retrospect. All evidence points pretty strongly towards wanting there to be some kind of announcements, and Legends fitting in pretty well. They probably intended for today be the DAII release date--and then, when they kept announcing it after it was pushed back, the Legends release date. But then that was pushed back, so they needed something to save face.
