I'm just sort of continually baffled by decisions made by the PR and marketing guys responsible for this game, whoever they might be. I can't really think of a worse way to handle this situation than how it actually went down. So I'll just sit here, being puzzled. Not that typing this will accomplish anything. I have a feeling the marketing team is avoiding this thread like the plague (easy to do since "feedback" is quarantined here). Sigh.
It's funny, Mass Effect and TOR are very well marketed. Just about everything that I've ever seen released about those two franchises has made me super excited, if not nerdgasm. With Origins and now DA2, my buying the game has been inspite of the marketing, because of my faith in Bioware as a developer.

Since ME2 my new position on Bioware is "set expectations low." I can't say I'm surprised to see cynicism turned out to be the correct and justified position to have taken re: 2.1.11wulfsturm wrote...

I think a couple of months ago in a post Chris Priestly stated that 2-1-11was in fact originally supposed to be the release date for DA2, but then it was pushed back until March. However, he also said it would still be a very happy day for DA fans. This the reason why I think people are miffed. I received an invite to the closed beta for DA Legends on Jan 13th. I'm not so sure why this was the announcement, when DAL was announced weeks ago and even has its own thread.I honestly thought it was going to be the release of the anime they were talking about or a cool preview or something. I'm gonna see if I dig up the old post.
It honestly makes me feel like BioWare did a bait-and-switch on us. I love this company, I think they're one of the best, if not the best gaming companies out there - but this has totally lowered my opinion of them.

This month better be the month of new trailers, gameplay, details, etc.........
otherwise, they're really relying on the "good faith" of their fans to buy DA2...........

It turned out to be PS3 downloadable or something. IMO people need to not get so worked up about this. A release date slipped long ago. No where near as bad as when the origins release date slipped back 6 months when we were only one month away. That was hard. Personally I am glad there is no demo, at least this way people won't be spamming the forums with plot twists etc they extract out of the various files.
I'd be completely on board with you IF Bioware would have just come out and said that.
The crap stunt they pulled in announcing something that they announced a few weeks ago is exactly that - a crap stunt.

Well, they are treating it as such. Which is annoying because it will probably be better than ME3 and TOR.

Which is unfortunate, since it has their best writers. Don't even get me started on that comic book pulp garbage that was churned out by Mac Walters and pals, labelled ME2.wulfsturm wrote...

This would be applicable if they didn't keep announcing that 02-01-2011 was some big, secret date. But they did. So someone decided something.
It appears that they simply decided to do nothing.
I didn't went in drama/rage mode when I found what what the fuss was all about, but I can't deny I was disappointed. BioWare, you should listen to the feedback of your fans. You do know that, even though there are douchebags around (there always are...), we are your most dedicated fans. And, therefore, we deserve all the respect we can get from you, I believe. And, when there are events like this, that provoque a major fuss, it's for a strong reason and that can't be ignored. Ignoring it is ignoring your fans, your public. The day you start making games solely for monetary profit, is the day you'll die as a company. But I'm sure you know that already.
Therefore, listening to feedback is important. I've been your fan since Baldur's Gate 2. I grew up playing your games. And I'm going to throw my 2 cents into the discussion. And I think I earned the right to do it.
What happened today wasn't very nice. It was borderline offensive. It started as something small, that could have been clarified in an instant and all this drama would have been avoided. I don't know what happened to the big revelation of the 02/01/2011, but I know it went completely wrong. Had it been the initial release date of Dragon Age 2, a simple correction and apology would have been enough. No fuss, no problem. You would admit your mistake and, therefore, wouldn't have failed to us. But we were met with nothing but awkward silence. You have to realize, we feel like we've been deceived. You had no way of predicting that "demo" leak that lead to the excessive hype that have plagued the community in the last couple of days, but, once again, a few words from you would have been enough to calm us down. That would have show respect to the fans. But nothing was said. We were left to hype in a crescent excitement, because lack of denial often proves confirmation. So, you must realize, BioWare, that a massified disappointment was expected, proportional to the hype you created and were unable to control.
Now, I am not inside the company. I do not know the reasons that lead you to decide to stay silent. I'm sure there were some and I want to believe in that. But that silent treatment didn't sit well with us.
Also, there are rumors that bannings are being distributed in a somewhat convenient fashion. I hope that isn't true, BioWare. Because if it is, you cannot begin to imagine the disappointment you'd bring me, as a longtime fan and as a person.
Anyway, those are my two-cents. I hope I haven't been excessively dramatic. But I think an event this size needs to have feedback from people who care. And I do. Gods, I do.
Cheers.

I just find it so funny that nobody wants to take the rap for this. Obviously the amazing reveal wasn't originally going to be this... So something went wrong. I'm just completely mystified that they thought we would just accept this crap. I'd be a lot happier if BW stopped pretending this was intentional.
Oh I'm sure an intern or two were let go at some point. The thing is, the people who make the bad decisions in large companies are almost never the ones to take the heat for them. There's always an underling to scapegoat.

Indeed. I haven't followed the marketing for ME3 or for TOR (not interested in those games) but I did watch the game awards show a month or so back, because I heard there was going to be an ad for a Bioware game. Given the March release of DA2, I figured it'd be for that.
But no, it was for ME3, which has a late 2011 release date, IIRC.
Nice job.

It definitely doesn't seem like it's being given equal treatment as Bioware's other projects, especially given the short development time and little official footage/screenshots.wulfsturm wrote...

Yeah, it just makes me wish all of those millions of dollars that are being funneled into TOR would find its way to DA2.

On that note, aparently TOR is the most expensive game that EA has funded, ever.
Think about that, then think about DA2.
