Chris said back in Aug that Feb. 1st wasn`t the release of DA 2 but we`d have something really special on this day. I still can`t imagine that they actually didn`t release ANYTHING, I mean yah they said that the facebook game (that everyone already knew about and some were playing) is still in beta but a new type of beta (when I log in to play it still says dark beta so maybe that`s not even true)

Fair enough. I was completely oblivious to that statement. Ignorance is bliss.

Is this thread even about Dragon Age anymore? Discussing BioWare in general seems better suited for the Off-Topic Forum.

The name of the topic is announcement feedback.  Hence, we're giving feedback about all things and parties involved in the announcement.  That encompasses DA:L, DA2, Bioware, EA, lack of a demo/info, etc.

Which would fit more in the Off-topic forum, I think.

How is a topic revelevnt to Dragon Age off-topic?  It has implications for Dragon Age.  The announcement for the game is on the Dragon Age II announcements board.  Maybe Chris should have posted the announcement in the off-topic forum?

And that was an edit made by Woo, not me.  I'd say so far we are just as ontopic as any other moving and popular thread, though the vitrol here is obviously worse which tends to attract mod attention of course.  There are other thread out there that are much longer and have gone father off course but because they are positive threads haven't gotten negative mod/dev attention

Because the announcement was about Dragon Age: Legends, not discussions about Bioware's marketing and stuff.

No, because the announcement was about DA2, and we're talking about the announcement thus we're talking about DA2.

Surely you can understand their desire to move this "feedback" quarantine to the forum where discussions go to die. Out of sight, out of mind.

Of course, they could have the volunteer mod Pacifien do it so Bioware themselves skirt the actual responsibility.

Also want to chime in with my disappointment, Bioware. Before I get branded as one of those Dragon Age fans who are unhappy no matter what (as Gaider branded us, thanks), that's not the case--even as some of the choices made for DAII development have been a surprise to me, I've been supportive and open-minded throughout.

But that's in regards to DAII. Not some facebook game. I'm a college student--my facebook is for staying in contact with friends. My Xbox is for games. Yeah, I could use facebook to play games or even use my xbox to launch facebook, but WHY would I want to do that when I would have better experiences using each platform for its intended purpose? I'm a fan of the universe, I read the novels, but I don't need a gelded facebook DA experience. I didn't play the last game and I won't play this one. And hell, even if I was interested now I wouldn't play it simply out of spite and principle.

If you're going to try to get us hyped about something, the announcement of a beta of a game that is ALREADY IN BETA is not good enough. Just be straightforward. I can totally understand trying to build hype for something, but when they hype doesn't live up to the delivery it can only be detrimental

Bioware's marketing is directly related to Dragon Age.  I'm not going to argue this anymore since this argument is off-topic.

Except you haven't even gotten that, yet.

And Pacifen - yes, this is absolutely DA2 related.  DA:A gave us all a card telling us 2-1-11 was important.  We've been speculating for months about what it could be, with that speculation and excitement only ramping up recently.  That culminated in a - apparently, bogus - announcement of a demo.

Not one person from Bioware ever said no demo, or sorry, 2-1-11 is wrong, not important anymore, or otherwise helped us out.  To the contrary, they led us on with their remarks.

Now, having heard today's announcement about DA:L being in beta testing - still - we are now discussing our thoughts about DA2 and it's marketing.

Sure seems DA2 related to me, since without DA2, and that card, 2-1-11 would have been meaningless to us.

But really, if this date was put into a little flyer in Awakening simply to advertise a facebook game.... I feel a little disappointed by it. Not because I'm an elitist "I-don't-play-facebook-games-ugh" sort of person but more because I hardly use facebook for anything other than keeping in touch with distant friends.

And there was the planet shattering community event last year. Good times, if I recall as an Australian.

Of course Bioware don't owe us anything other than releasing the game to us when its ready, so I'll just sit back and wait till the game is out.

Why does The DA team continually misrepresent the truth with this series? First we were told that there would be 2 years of DLC (which turned out to be be only 9 months)...then in Awakenings we received a flyer that said 02/21/2011...Then in September they advertised Witch Hunt as "getting answers" to our questions regarding Morrigan...Then today the 02/01/2011 turns out to be a beta test for DA facebook...the one thing that everyone seems to have overlooked is the fact that, IF, the 02/01/2011 was the original release date for DA2 then the 2 years of DLC was clearly a lie from the start since they knew as far back as Jan 2010 that DA2 would be coming out this year not later...Add to this the vague stream of info regarding actual gameplay, the talking points and catch phrases that seem to be the norm with the DA team and I find it hard to believe anything regarding the quality of this game or really anything that comes out of the mouth's of the DA2 developers...It begs the question, how can one team for Bioware (ME) seem to have things so much more together (and act honestly) compared to another...

I almost feel the need for a badge "2.1.11 Sucked but I still love DA2/Bioware" or something to that effect.

Hold on, you're not saying that gameplay changes are less important than not screwing up the marketing are you?

This is not that big a deal. If DA2 rocks, I couldn't care less about this.

Am I the only one without Facebook and, therefore, couldn't give less than two craps about some random flash game?

On that note, whatever happened to DA Journeys? Last I heard, it died out after EA let slip that future content for it might be 'premium'.

Agreed, as far as I'm concerned it now falls under being a lie of omission.

No, I don't have an account either. However I'll likely make an account and play the game if for nothing else for the free DA2 stuff.

Couldn't it at least have been OPEN BETA? Come on, seriously, what kind of announcement is Closed Beta? That's like saying they changed the locks on the doors.

Locking threads is an odd thing to take pleasure in. I always find it strange to see the way some mod's lock down threads, there is a discussion going on here that a lot of people seem pretty interested in, leave it be.
