And Pacifen - yes, this is absolutely DA2 related.  DA:A gave us all a card telling us 2-1-11 was important.  We've been speculating for months about what it could be, with that speculation and excitement only ramping up recently.  That culminated in a - apparently, bogus - announcement of a demo.

Not one person from Bioware ever said no demo, or sorry, 2-1-11 is wrong, not important anymore, or otherwise helped us out.  To the contrary, they led us on with their remarks.

Now, having heard today's announcement about DA:L being in beta testing - still - we are now discussing our thoughts about DA2 and it's marketing.

Sure seems DA2 related to me, since without DA2, and that card, 2-1-11 would have been meaningless to us.

Agreed, as far as I'm concerned it now falls under being a lie of omission.

After looking at some threads from the past few months it appears that the flier was about DA2 but it was delayed to March, hell the recent thread that got necroed was from 7 months ago and even there it was stated it got delayed.

Shame people can't have half the patience and understanding that Valve fans have, hell they were promised episodic Half-Life games every 6 months and the time between 2-3 has been close to 4 or so years at least (Frankly when was the last time they made a initial release date at all?).

Anyway people should just call it a night, hell I have seen many questions about a demo and such answered the problem is people feel they are so entitled to the stuff they need to lash out at anyone and anything.  Honestly take 10 minutes, calm down then look back at the posts.... in the grand scheme of things was all that anger and garbage that has been spewed really worth the time and effort, and over something like a game demo?

And all it would have taken in the past several months was one person from Bioware stating that what you describe - the flyer being the original intended release date and nothing more - to have pevented all this.

Instead, we got comments like this: (credit to The Gentle Ben for putting it here)

which did nothing more than fuel our expectation.  Mike's "trick" was to announce that beta-testing on DA:L continues.

I think someone at Bioware should have taken 10 minutes to consider their strategy rather than lead us on.

Hello, So far ive just recently got into Dragon Age and im looking foward to DA:2, my only dissapointment, is, How much money do you guys think I have>? And whats with the over the top exclusive DLC

I mean, if i want extra shields and a dog or somthing, i need your pre ordered Signiture Addition, which in Australia is over $100. Then If i want other interesting Items, i need to join a facebook group.
Then I read I get another DLC character if I buy Dead Space 2..

Do you see what I mean? Just by the way marketing is, you make people feel like their game will be 'missing' somthing unless we unload a serious amount of money your way? Ive read about the new business model in the videogames industry, the whole 'take a $50 dollar sale and turn it into a $500 dollar sale' But i just think you guys are being a tad blatent about it.

I'm not sure how things are where you are from, but I'm pretty sure e evrything you just said is completely false.
For one the Sig edition adds extra armor and weapons and a extra companion for free for NO extra cost, but it isnt around anymore, second if you buy Dead Space 2 you get Armor for DA2, thats it, not another character.
Plus the dog the shield the sword and the black emporium are all pre order bonuses from participating retailers, all for free.

Bazaar was a give away the was open to North America at first... making the rest of the world go nuts.  It was a nice idea by BioWare, but it turned into a foofooRAR on the forums.  It was =much= more than most other companies would do, so BioWare get tons of awesome points for it.

It's nothing like this.  IMO.  The Demo Tuesday Debacle  is a case of one missed blue post sending the forums into la la land.  *shrugs*  We'll be over it in a few days.

I don't get it. Why can't they just confirm this was the original planned release date for DAII?

Why did they try to be all quiet about it and pretend like it was something else that is important?

Because they probably didn't have the DA Legends CLOSED beta test release planned all the way back then to be released for today, and if they did they wouldn't have bothered putting that flyer in copies of DAO Awakening, since really it's not that important.

Yup. A good deal of it is - seeing as I got the Signature Edition for something closer to $70.00 which is pretty darn reasonable for a game here. And really, businesses are about making money. No one is forcing anyone to buy anything here.

Pretty sure I will be Posted Image'd but...
Basically BioWare created a countdown clock on their websites. Everyone got really pumped and speculated what it could mean. Ended up being an auction that only 48 states in the U.S. could join.
That ticked a LOT of people off.
As for me, I got an awesome banner I will never take down. That's where all the "I used to be part of the community..." came from.

I will never understand the "cake is a lie" meme. Was it started by someone who started Portal but never finished it or something?  The cake was not a lie, Chell just left before she got a chance to eat it.

Really what led you to believe that... oh ya a piece of paper with a date on it.
I could say that was their original plan to announce DA2 in the first place and it has as much credit as your guess.

Based on current knowledge it seems Mr. Fabulous was essentially correct in his suppositions yet was directly contradicted. It seems quite predictable/understandable for people's expectation levels to be raised in light of such Developer comments. If the DA:L beta transition was indeed the intended "trick" then that is predictably underwhelming and therefore potentially ire-worthy. If plans merely fell through then some acknowledgement and transparency would seem to have been the proper approach.

But whateva. *shrug*

exactly yet another example of a DA2 misrepresentation - I fail to see how we can believe anything about this game...

Sten makes this comment at the end of DA:O, if you talk to him before leaving the palace to see the adoring popluace, thus ending the game.

It isn't even going to launch before Dragon Age 2 comes out.

Then what else could it be?

There is no way they would consider the annoucment of a closed beta test for a facebook game important enough to put ads in a game. I doubt they even had DA Legends closed beta test planned for a specific date all the way back then.

It was something other then that. Why can't they just say what it was?

The cake was still a lie. If you followed GLADOSs directions you would end up getting incinerated, not getting any cake. The final scene is somewhat of a contradiction because I was under the impression you destroyed GLADOS.

It shouldn't come out, because I can't imagine it being ready at this time.  But I wouldn't bet the farm on it not coming out.  Shoddy Facebook games don't really cause any significant problems.

Well I interpret that as a few things instore for the month of February, February has 28 days.

Also as for the flier, I looked at several different threads and the general opinion was that it was the DA2 release date and many thrads as the months go by talk about the release date being moved, it happens.

I'm just not one to go on a tirade because of some hype.

Bioware has made some great games and have made a lot of great content, however people seem to enjoy throwing them to the wolves any chance they see fit over the most trivial things (Yes I see this as trivial)

Also before you jump on me about lack of information being available.  I like it that way, I don't want game companies releasing info dumps non stop which could potentially spoil the game.

We are getting in the home stretch, info will come.

and honestly if you don't like how things are going wether if it was intentional, accidental, or forced upon by a 3rd party. Just go up to your browser window punch in some other website and leave.

run until later in March, after the console game has been released.

He's talking about the game the quote originally came from. Not the DA:O nod to it.
