Since it's wild, speculative theory week on the BSN. Here's mine:
The exclusivity mentioned in the Gamestop page isn't as specific as we're assuming, and is an exclusive window for participating retailers to have access to the demo of the game. That would explain why a Danish (I think) retailer had a "demo now" image, for example. They made the mistake of putting it out for the public when it was meant only for their employees, just like Gamestop. I would not be shocked if many retailers have similar deals and offers. Why? Because offering an employee exclusive to a single brick and mortar store makes absolutely no sense.
So what happened?
Retailers are offered an exclusive window PC demo to try out the game, ostensibly to give them advance information on the game to give to customers at the point of sale, or whatever. A Danish retailer messes up and posts an image part of this announcement on a public forum and the BSN explodes into a speculative fervor just in time for it to be coincidentally linked to the 2.1.11 announcement.
Bioware is now doubly screwed. If there had been no demo speculation, people would have been disappointed sure - not many around here seem to care much about Dragon Age: Legends. But would there have been the same amount of forum rage? I'm not sure. I wasn't one of the bigger ragers. They can't not announce DA:L, because hey, that was the plan. And they can't talk about the details of the retailer exclusive because it is subject to an NDA (hinted at in Gamestop's webpage signup) and not available to players for another three weeks anyway.
Who screwed up here?
Well, aside from the dubious decisions of Bioware marketing in the first place - which I don't really believe I'm in a position to personally criticize because I'm not in marketing, but hey, it doesn't seem to be working. The one who really tossed the gasoline onto the fire that is the BSN is the Danish retailer who screwed up and posted the image in the wrong place.

Here what I dont understand.
What does Gamestop wins in the deal? Sure, it's great that the employees can play the game but EA could have send a fact sheets about the game and it would have been the same thing. Its not an exclusive pre-order bonus or something...
Or the second thing. Why limit access till the 23 to a large portion of the playerbase? Dont you want to show the game to as many people as possible? Isnt the playerbase the actual target for marketing?
The wording in the Demo site is also awkward: In appreciation of your support of the Dragon Age franchise,

Dgon Age 2 will be available on the PS3, Xbox 360, and PC on March 8, 2011.
Why release it on PC only? I know this isnt the preferred platform and it wont be the one selling the most...
This entire thing feels like a giant nightmare to me. Things unwrapped and spilled all over the place. Now, someone has to pick up the mess.
