All joking aside...they are primarily a PC developer. Always have been. :)

Except for KOTOR, Jade Empire, Mass Effect 1, and Mass Effect 2.

I'm sorry, did those not come out on PC? I'll have to give you ME1 since the PC version was second and all there for whatever reason. But just because the games were developed for consoles alongside the PC so they could make more money does not mean they're not primarilly a PC developer.

And besides...PC games get mods so clearly they're the superior version.

This isn't about the superior version, this is about the fact that BioWare is supposed to be catering to consoles as well with DA2.

Try to understand before jumping to conclusions.

What does Gamestop wins in the deal? Sure, it's great that the employees can play the game but EA could have send a fact sheets about the game and it would have been the same thing. Its not an exclusive pre-order bonus or something...

No it's really not. I can honestly speak from experience. If you're expected to push a product you have to know what you're talking about and nothing beats hands on experience.

Why release it on PC only? I know this isnt the preferred platform and it wont be the one selling the most...

Are you sure you know that or have you just been convinced of that due to all of the console bitterness on the forums with everyone going on and on about how they are certain the changes are all just because Bioware was brainwashed by EA into hating PC players...

Conversely maybe it's just the only way to make it downloadable and exclusive.... Can't really do that on Live or the PSN. ;)
This is cheaper than printing up demo discs for all platforms.

Bioware makes a good game in the industry, has the worst P.R./Customer Relations in the industry.

I guess you can't win at it all.

What's with the GameStop love? I thought used game sales is the new rock&roll, and must be killed with fire.

Ya know, GameStop isn't JUST used games. You have the option to get a brand new game/console or a used game/console

Gamestop may not be exclusive to the demo--other retailers may be getting access to it as well. As far as the demo only being PC for now, I would imagine that is because it’s the easier way to go since it’s an exclusive demo and after the time period is up, it will be released to all.

Because you actually think Stan Woo (or Chris Priestly, or David Gaider, or even Mike Laidlaw) gets to decide whether or not he can respond to your questions.

Why do you assume this?

They're free with their comments when they choose to be, is how it seems to me.

And Stan, just like David in the speculation thread the other day, came in and said play nice, yet ignored all our questions.

Silence - if they didn't know by now - does not help.  If he even said "I can't answer those right now, because I'm not allowed to/I don't have the info/I need to check into it" it would be nice.

Sort of like the way Chris Priestly responded to questions about amazon.co.uk not giving the sword and shield bonus . . and then responded.

That was helpful.  This is not.

Aww, pc only? FAIL.

From the Gamestop Demo website.

"In appreciation of your support of the Dragon Age franchise, BioWare
would like you to have early access to the Dragon Age 2 PC demo."

And in the small print.

"Any form of distribution, recording, posting of any elements of the
Dragon Age 2 demo and any of its files is strictly prohibited until
February 23, 2011 when the demo is made available to all consumers."

THERE IS ABSOLUTLY NOTHING IN THERE THAT SAYS THE DEMO RELEASED TO THE  PUBLIC WILL BE PC ONLY....

Shorts has a point here... PR isn't really in their job description. Besides, I don't think they're at liberty to say much at this point anyway (because EA is bankrolling this circus-party). We're lucky they interact with us at all.

I highly, highly doubt that is the case despite the people wildly tossing the old "so and so should be fired!"   As an organization you look at an incident, try and assess the impact, then look at taking steps so things won't happen again or at least adjust some policies if you see the customers are upset.

I'm going to ask people to please stop swearing in this thread. We can freak out and disagree with each other (and us) without swearing, name-calling or insults. I would also like to remind people of the rest of the Site Rules. Just because you are upset does not mean you don't have to follow the rules.

Some spam has been removed, some warnings and bans handed out. thank you.

I'm actually surprised that you didn't just close the whole thread.  At this point, I don't see any way it can be saved.

Yeah, but a huge chunk of their profit is from there.

I just find it a bit funny that with EA's Crusade 10 Dollars and whatnot they get the goodies all the time.

Is it not obvious that BIOWARE does not actually employ any PR people? Obviously they're too broke from giving out free pre-order DLC bonuses... oh... wait.....

Seriously stanley, it might be prudent to "get your manager" on the phone and figure out how to "handle" this situation because the silence is accomplishing NOTHING.

Yeah, it's almost like I have nothing to say on this subject. Strange, isn't it? It doesn't seem to have mattered a whit, really. Y'all don't really need any kind of official confirmation or discussion, y'all are riding the righteous indignation train pretty well on your own. ;)

I'd be less baffled, and less indignant, if you would even flat out tell us, that you're not allowed to tell us.  I'm sure there's plenty you have to say, and can't.  Tell us that, and we'd likely calm down.

There's where most of the indignation in this thread is coming from, Stanley - what we percieve to be a lack of information.

Honestly, most of the time, they simply dont know.

Ive worked at Ubisoft with teams way smaller than DAII and most of the time, the designers were not always aware of the dealings of marketing. We had moments where we had a 2 day notice that we had to ship a demo to an event.

Now if EA is handling the PR/Marketing, there is even a bigger chance that designers are not part of the information loop concerning those two elements.

Producers are the ones having the broader look of a project and they wont be posting in an internet forums! (kidding)
Just assume that they dont know answers to marketing questions and you will feel a lot better.

I'm pretty sure that saying they "can't talk about it" could be constituted as violating the NDA anyway.

Whether or not its helpful isn't relevant to whether or not they've been cleared to comment. Or even have something to say in the first place.

TJPags wrote...

Chris Priestly is undoubtedly authorized to respond to those questions.  He also probably knows - in this example - how to get in touch with the right people at amazon.co.uk to get those answers.  Does David Gaider?  Does John Epler?  I wouldn't expect it, as community management isn't their job.  This is a publicly traded company we're talking about.  They don't just let anyone say anything whenever they want, or when the forum begs them sufficiently.

Yes, yes, this! Can we please, please get something? If you can't talk about it, can you at least say that you can't talk about it?

.....and if you can't say that you can't say that you can't talk about it..... blink twice.
