This is what I thought too, but I found it too risky. So I don't think its that.

Or it is one of many reasons.

I am incredibly confused... gamestop employees get it today and everyone else gets it the 23rd? how exactly does that make sense??

Gamestop employees get it on the 11th and as far as I can tell, it is in an effort to get them acquainted with the game to help them sell it. This has happened several times before with other developers/retailers.

I just got back from my local GS and asked about the demo code. One of the employees said: "Yeah we have them and we have been handing them out like crazy." Then the manager I presume told me that they were for employees only and she does not know all the details. GS always confuses me.

This is also assuming the employees 1) will play it and 2) know how to talk about it. Ive unfortuneatly encountered some that know only about FPSs, or JRPGS. I have a friend that could actually care less and wont be demoing.

I dont get it. Some people are saying we will still get a demo? Some say no?

It better be before game is out and be public.

"This early demo access is being granted to Gamestop employees only. Any
form of distribution, recording, posting of any elements of the Dragon
Age 2 demo and any of its files is strictly prohibited until February
23, 2011 when the demo is made available to all consumers."

From the small print on this website. -> http://dragonage.bio...estopdemo?code=

I don't really care GameStop is getting it first. They're just getting it early. If they never got it, I'd assume we'd still be getting it at the 23rd. Nothing changes, therefore, I'm not offended.

I can't sleep. Damn working rotating shifts.
Anyway I agree we still get a demo 2 weeks before thr game comes out which is awesome in my book.

Well, I'm grateful for the demo. I'm very irritated and disappointed with BioWare for this whole fiasco. That hasn't changed. But this screw up won't change my opinion that the company produces quality products. I'll just be less inclined to trust them, or their "announcements".

Emotion is really a separate center of activity, apart from reason.  If people are feeling an emotion, they need to let it run its course.  If a person is excited, they will see the good parts and stay excited.  If a person is angry, they will see the bad parts, and remain angry.

Do you think if they had made this demo the official announcement (with the same time scale), it could have mitigated the reactions?  Or do you think that would just have annoyed people due to the delay?

This is pretty much how I feel.  I've always liked Bioware games, but the company seriously has some issues in marketing.

Seems like everything's starting to calm down.

My guess is by the morning people will be happy that we are getting a demo, instead of being mad that Gamestop is getting it early, like they should have been in the first place.

People were not mad because there was no demo.

People were mad because there had been a lot of build up and hype for a closed beta that was already available for a Facebook game. When we were expecting a demo. Many of us would not have been angry if they had simply fessed up earlier that the Awakening leaflet was jumping the gun on the release date. That there was no big announcement, but there would be some news.

IMO, their real mistake was putting that date card in Awakening - I think it is nigh impossible to set a date that far in advance.

Seriously, letting GS employees have first go at a demo is good strategy all around on Bioware's part. They are the ones that come in first hand contact with the customers and if they are amped up about the game they are going to get their customers amped up thus increasing sales. Does it suck that the fans got the short end of the stick as far as 2/1/11 goodies? Sure. And yes I was pretty livid at first but people are taking it to the extreme. The devs are told what they can and can't talk about and I don't think it is fair for people to expect them to risk their own jobs just to pacify us. And it didn't click till just a bit ago that some of these devs are taking time out of their free time at home to come on and monitor the forums to make sure that things don't get more out of hand than they already are. I'm not saying don't be mad or upset, I'm not saying don't express your opinion but everyone needs to simmer down a little bit and let what will happen happen.

Well, a demo is on the way, and so is the game itself, in due time. I say, let's leave it at that.

I agree. This whole situation hasn't changed the fact that it's going to be an incredible game.

Any word on how long the demo will be, if it's a gameplay one?

Silly idea to make it exclusive for gamestop employees until the 23rd.

and, i think this board makes running through the Urn of Sacred Ashes Temple + Deep Roads + Fade for the 15th time seem a bit less insane...
