Well, (puts on wading boots), please allow a self-appointed "logic/civility servant" to address a few issues here, but only after pointing out two things- 1, I am merely trying to respond to EVERYTHING in this thread I've seen, and 2, never take anything I say as judgmental, just reactionary and helpful. It is my goal, as a soon-to-be-teacher/forum moderator elsewhere/current game store manager/howler monkey to help people be as polite and thoughtful as possible. Now---
The anger being directed at Bioware, IMHO, is understandable yet ridiculous. The time of the day not withstanding (how many of you work off the clock?), you cannot expect an immediate response from ANY corporation or business in terms of things like this. As far as I'm concerned, there is a great deal that should be learned from this to Bioware's marketing department (both the DA Legends fiasco and this Beta), and hopefully, such "miss-steps" will not occur again. I understand that I have no authority here, but Stanley, John, Chris and whoever else will read this, please understand that we nerds are a fickle and delicate bunch. While you cannot possibly expect to always please everyone, a lot of fans do not believe that, because as most philosophers would argue (thanks Dr. Plementi from ISU!), to the individual, the individual = truth = majority. While people are smart enough to understand such a metaphysical equation is false, you hopefully can understand my point.
People will get mad when they think they have been wronged, and a beta to a facebook game when other fans have already been participating will not go over well when average fans have spent MONTHS speculating on what could be. While I wouldn't ask you to tell fans what will come, I would humbly suggest perhaps a TEENEY bit more interaction with fans, perhaps saying "No, the announcement won't be for a DA2 demo/Not a character reveal/etc" to help avoid situations like this. Please note, I said "avoid" as we all know things like this WILL happen.
Now, this whole "Kill it with fire!" attitude some people are having is.... wait for it..... understandable. Yes, I know, shocking, considering I'm playing mucho devils advocate here.
What this revelation sounds like (not IS, but can be interpreted as such) is that Bioware cares more for Gamestop employees/PC users than others. Of course, that was hardly the intention here. Whether this was merely a thank you to Gamestop (which the cards clearyly state it is) or merely an attempt at hype/promotion, I can understand that. As a manager at a different game store, I'll go ahead and say

. My original point (if I ever had any :innocent:) is that if you're going to go around and include some but exclude others, whether intentional or not, those excluded will be angry. Anyone who's ever had a secret club as a child while also having a sibling will know EXACTLY what I mean.
Now, fellow forumites, we need to understand NO DISRESPECT OR DISSERVICE WAS MEANT TOWARDS US. So, the anger is understandable, the rage reaction is not. Bioware surely wasn't trying to anger any of us, but merely either A) Reward a valued resource or

Increase the hype/knowledge of a video game amongst video game retailers. In fact, if it wasn't for the GIGANTIC INFORMATION LEAK that is the internet, we wouldn't know any of this, and instead of becoming a hot button to fans, this would have merely served the aforementioned purpose and nothing more. Doesn't make it right (I'm really not trying to be all Holier than thou here), just saying that both sides have valid points here, but as I and other forumites have asked, like the fantastically dedicated Woo and John have asked, we should all keep it civil. Fact of the matter is, while Woo and John can't just say everything (they would lose their jobs, and we don't want that), they are saying something, which is more than almost any other developer can say.
In summation?
Keep it civil. Bioware is in a sticky spot that, while there are some legitimate issues here, is not deliberate. Whether or not they made a mistake and how badly so is one thing, but they deserve a chance to react accordingly to their office hours/chain of command.
