Cracking doesn't really matter, someone is going to be bound to leak the installer for the demo on the 11th or before it's release date to all anyways. Even then, it's like 12 days people. You'll get the demo soon enough! =P I can't wait.

It's actually stealing. You took something that you were not given permission to obtain.

The law has not caught up to that particular technology. While unethical, he is perfectly in the right.

You can't steal something free.

This early demo access is being granted to Gamestop employees only. Any
form of distribution, recording, posting of any elements of the Dragon
Age 2 demo and any of its files is strictly prohibited until February
23, 2011 when the demo is made available to all consumers
.

It's not free for anyone yet, and it will only be free to Gamestop employers in the near future.

Again, not illegal.

I'm pretty sure it's called fraud.  And unless you are a criminal attorney I suggest you ask one before making such definitive statements.  The law is a dense, complex, and comprehensive thing.

But since I'm not a criminal lawyer, I don't have much else to say.

Well, I don't have the demo so it's a moot point. And even if I do get it early I won't be distributing it.

It doesn't matter anyway. Fortunately, some good Gamestop employees are going to leak it.

It isn't "free" if you aren't eligible or don't meet certain standards.  In any case this thread is displaying a shallow understanding of the law at best.

It's not fraud at all. If the implication is that by using a code to get the demo I'm passing myself off as a GameStop employee then that would be incredibly hard to make a case for.

Are you a prosecuting attorney, then?  Do you have the relevant caselaw on hand?  Is there any?

Would this even go to trial?  Would you be willing to pay the legal fees associated with a court battle - as EA/Bioware/Gamestop certainly would - or would you settle/plea bargain?

If you're a member of the Bar I'll walk away right now.

The most likely outcome would be a fine, which I would dispute. Then the charges would almost certainly be dropped.

pretty sure any discussions of doing something Bioware terms "illegal" such as cracking to get at something, is something Bioware would lock down this thread for. So just stop already

And what are you basing this on?  What are your credentials?  Cite some case law, heck even some relevant theory.  Personally, I know just enough about the law that I will never in a million years accept legal analysis from a layperson - myself included.

So, are you a lawyer or not?  Stop ignoring the question.

Agreed. Besides eleven days isn't that long after to wait. Don't be greedy people.

yay i don't feel like an idiot for guaranteeing the demo anymore Posted Image

Speaking of which... where's that guy who swore there was no way there would ever be a demo in a million years because it was totally impossible and then tried to dig himself out of that hole by saying that if there was it would be console-exclusive...Posted Image
I miss him.

you mean this guy?

If Bioware release a demo/beta of this game it will hit sales very hard....hence no demo.

That's the rub ....once you move away from a popular format and disenfranchise your customer base ( trying to scim the console market) with a shorter, streamlined game. lacking in depth and emmersive experience....the less you give before release the better.

DA2 will be a huge dissapointment to the original fan base...and they know it...hence no beta/demo

Decisions, decisions. Part of why I loved Origins so much was because I knew nothing about the game at all before buying it. So knowing a demo is coming before I could get it, would I want to hang around and hear about the spoilers or should I wait for the demo or by that point just wait for the game release. Good thing MvC3 is coming out soon, but the next 2 weeks are going to be rough.

Oh ho ho! So we do have a demo! To all those people who couldn't understand why we were getting excited over "nothing".<_<

And why Gamestop? So wait, does that mean that you only get access to the demo if you ordered thru Gamestop or will it be available for download to anybody on Feb. 23rd?

And it seems PC only. Oh well. I'm borrowing my sister's PC until March 8th!

It will be available to everyone on the 23rd im assuming (otherwise watch as a wave of riots worse that what occured today occur). Before then, only Gamestop employees can get the codes.

I don't get how we can have access to the demo. We have to preorder the game to Gamestop?
