Strictly speaking, what did he promise?Xewaka wrote...
I'm just wondering what happened with Mike's policy of "underpromise and overdeliver" in this particular case.
Also, the vast majority of people who would have seen that Awakening insert would not have known about Legends yet, so that announcement is actually relevant to them.

Nevertheless, this is how I see the situation:
(1) EA sends out newsletters in at least three languages claiming a "demo"
(2) Forum members connect this to the DA:A insert date of 02.01.11
(3) A hype storm begins with no substantive comments from EA/BioWare
(4) EA fixes the newsletters by removing all mention of a "demo"
(5) BioWare announces DA:L
At some point, I think EA/BioWare should have stepped in to explain the "demo" newsletters. On top of that, the 02.01.11 date had a lot of hype before the demo rumors so a lot of people were expecting something more than a DA:L beta announcement.

And does anyone really expect them to "admit they made a mistake" and that "all" they have to offer is this Legends game instead? That would be a huge slight to the people working on Legends...
It's how you do it. You don't release the closed beta today, you release yesterday or tomorrow maybe. Then it is not related to this date at all. It's better than being associated with the date of epic disappointment.
Well, maybe they don't see it as a disappointment. Maybe they think it's worthy of such a fanfared release.

Don't they realise this will all go away if they just 'fess up?
I sincerely doubt that.
And those images, will they not help along with all the banning and closing?

Seriously guys, get off it already.
First off, it's quite apparent that the card inserted in the Awakenings case was meant to hype up Dragon Age 2. It's not like the people at Bioware were like Hmm... I wonder how we can really disappoint our fanbase come Feb. 1st. More like they had a few things in the works that they were hoping to present to the community on Feb. 1st but not all of them were ready in time; They are busy developing a game afterall.
I'm disappointed too, but lets stop acting like it's this grand breaking of some covenant between fans and the developers.
If it were just a card with a (year later) date on it, and that date got missed, i'd give a great big "whatevs."
but the card + Evil Chris saying there was something big planned for this day (in the summer) + Mike Laidlaw saying they has some "tricks planned" for this day (month or 3 back) + 3 seperate accidental newsletters about a demo that linked directly to the EA servers (day and a half before the advertised "special date") = some serious anticipation/expectation.
then we get and anouncement that a few more people can join the glitchy closed beta that people have already been playing for ~2 weeks. a game that's not even made by bioware. and not even an acknowledgement that the newsletters were fake/wrong/ a screw up, or that they even existed. i agree that some people are over-reacting, and i know i look like an idiot for my earlier posts, but still..... very poorly handled by the BW PR folks.

If I explicitly state that I'm not promising to give them cake tomorrow, will they be really upset when I don't bring them cake?
I think the answer is clear that yes they would be upset.
Whatever happens after this, I definitely got my enjoyment out of their date. I mean, you gota admit, these reactions are priceless.
Absolutely. I would of loved a demo. I would of loved to have exactly what all the previewers have had at the conventions so I could judge for myself exactly what they were looking at on my own merits.
But I never got that news letter. No of the EA sites I visit had that banner. THere was no anoucement here (where it would be one of the first places to be announced) so my hopes never went up for it. It was a bunch of here say and guess work getting thrown around.
The same people making the biggest stink are the sames ones that hyped this up around these forums where there has never been any information or confirmation about a public demo coming out.
Entertainment at its finest.
I honestly have not payed much(if any) attention to this date nor did I ever give it more of a thought when it got closer. About the only thing I thought MIGHT happen, was some new info or maybe the off chance of another character creator. The fact that these reactions are happening though can be nothing but a good thing, showing how people are hanging onto everything in hopes of having their DA2 fix sedated.

There must be some real consequence for Bioware. Even now they refuse to own up to their mistakes. It is difficult to believe how arrogant Gaider and Chris have acted throughout this fiasco.
We will be eventually be playing the main game at any rate, so I suggest that the source of this, the stupid fb game, be the one to suffer. Everyone should go on fb and "unlike" the fb group that they made us like. Right now the page has 270k fans. We should target to bring that down to below 100k. Not only shouldn't we not forgot this, but we have to make sure that they also not forget it.
I would also "Report" the page as misleading, but I guess that would be wrong. So its upto the individual.
Spread the message guys; pass to on to your friends, paste it on other groups. Bring the facebook group down drastically, we need to see results before the end of this week.
THE CAKE WAS A LIE!!!!
that goes too far..i want bioware to be succesful..but this one sealed the deal for me:da2 wont be a day one buy for me and maybe i wont buy it/play it at all with all these games coming after may(after witcher2 that is)

Please, please, please, can we get an explanation for what happened with that EA email? That's all I want to know! I don't need a demo!
1) Why were those "Demo Out Now!" banners released? Was it a simple misunderstanding between Bioware and EA?
2) Why were those banners so quietly edited fifteen hours later? Again, was it to correct a simple misunderstanding? Why no announcement when this happened?
3)Why was everyone "in the know" so quiet about those mysterious banners? Why couldn't fans get an explanation? Was it because the Devs honestly didn't know what was going on? Or if it's something super-secret, could you at least say, "We can't discuss that right now?"
4) What exactly happened?
PLEASE. All I want is a little clarification. The silence from both Bioware and EA is what has confused me from the start.

The situation was handled poorly on Bioware’s part. They should have quelled the rumors to begin with ,but they didn’t and this is where we are. Continuously spitting about it isn’t going to help. Take your disappointment and suck it in and hope that we’ll get something soon. At this point, I would be happy with just a character reveal or something with FemHawke’s voice in it.
And really, the posters who post nonsense like, trololol nerd rage iz hilarious! Are just as bad at the ones who paint Bioware as being unethical corporate drones. It doesn't help the situation, only infects it.
Agreed.
