Cry? Why?

I'd rather not.

I wan't Hawke to cry after he accidentally cut too deep during blood magic.

Suddenly my Spirit/Battle/Healer/Blood mage seems way less cool.

Mission Accomplished.

Using the mirror of transmorgification in Signature Edition I will cut my Lady Hawkes hair short when she is sad and grow it out when she is happy.

It certainly makes sense to have wide® range of options how to behave in a roleplaying game. As such it's quite reasonable request without the whole opinion nonsense. It'd be down to individual opinion whether the player would use it for their character, but that's another story.

For what's worth, Shepard does the whole coffin stroking bit at the end of ME2. It's not exactly crying but it does appear like moment of reflection and maybe regret, if nothing else.

Anyone remember the scene in 300 where the captains son is killed? because he cried and he was a damn spartan, not to mention he beat down like ten guys at the same time. I would not call that being a sissy.

I'd like to think my brother (if I had one) would cry if I died.

I wouldn't mind some crying, maybe not as an explicit option all the time, but as a response to sad events like the death of a sibling.

I mean, I don't roleplay tough butch women. I want my femHawke to be sensitive and feminine. I don't want her to be a man with a female appearance, like femShep felt like half the time. I want the spoken dialog to be different, even if the other character response is the same, rather than just female actor speaking man's lines.
But I'm concerned that she's just going to come across as a tough manly chick with little option to roleplay otherwise, because maleHawke is default :(

In all of the Bioware games I have played, KOTOR, Mass Effect, Dragon Age there is no option for your character to break down and cry in. To show how bad it is that your family has been murdered/ galaxy is about to be destroyed, friend someone you loved has died and it was your fault/ decision.

In Mass Effect 2 Bioware even created a custom crying animation to be used for some Npcs (Ferros contract Asari girl) But is it Shephard ever doing the crying? No says Bioware, "Shephard is a beefy steroid popping space marine brick with no emotion who only puts there hand over his/her mouth to ponder over deaths of all squad after suicide mission. No when Shephard is fighting a Thresher Maw even though his/her entire squad got murdered and killed with Sheploo the only survivor he/she casually fights one on the ground and in the Mako without even commenting on it.

I wonder if Shep used the Fallout Cannibal perk to survive that.

When I begin my adventures in Dragon Age 2 as Lady Hawke Mage I want the option to cry when my very own sister dies right in front of me!

Because this is Dragon Age here people, the "Middle Ages" I guess. Where there are no performance enhancing cybernetics/drugs bringing people back from the dead after becoming ground beef from plummeting from space into a planet. There is only Magic and people who want to oppress or control it for evil or good.

Some examples where crying is appropriate:

Um no we  soldiers don't cry and i know   spartans don't cry and sure  warrior hawke won't cry he/she will get even i know i would

Hey, I'd like to conflict with you on this point, female shep was 30x better than male shep because she actually sounded like she was a cop, instead of a 20 year old idealist in a 30 something year olds body. :police:

Infact female police officers tend to be more agressive than male officers to fit in, she's perhaps as fitting as you could possibly get for her role.

If it's good enough for James Franco, it's good enough for Hawke.

Too people saying that only sissies cry I hope you never have to go through the pain of losing someone or you're a sissy.

As it is my favorite show is 24 and Jack Bauer is the most badass person ever and even he cries sometimes.

Good points, OP. I can't see why, in a cinematic game where the intent is to show the PC reacting to her environment, that tears would be banned. Why?

There are some good points here... A lot of people, when confronted with the death of their family/beloved/home planet would be moved to tears.

However, even in a cinematic, or even if the dialogue option was "OH GOD WHY" I think it would be more universally applicable to have the hero look distraught, not shed a few tears. Yes, a lot of players would appreciate it, but a lot of people would not.

Can't you imagine the complaints?

"You took MY epic!hero and turned him/her into a wimpering box of kittens!"

"Well, a single, silent tear is hardly a sign of-"

"CRYING IS NOT MANLY."

"It's a sign of humility! Of HUMANITY-!"

"I DISAPPROVE."

The number of people who appreciate their Player Character shedding tears would be heavily outweighed by those who disapprove, if you ask me.
