I don't see the problem with it being an option. StoicHawke shows no emotion. EmoHawke bawls his/her eyes. Meh, not sure if its worth the resources though.

Oh, I disagree. I thought it was really moving to see humans and non-humans show intense sadness, and even tears of joy. I thought that the tears were a beautiful expression of what it means to be alive, no matter your race.

In theory I agree. But because they overused the effect it wasn't nearly as moving as if they only did it once or twice.

I have a feeling this is Bioware's current stance.

It costs 70 dollars to buy a game but less than 20 dollars to make one. But I think they could fit it in the budget if they wanted too, that said I think the fact no developer responded to our posts with something vague like "you'll see ^_^" means they didn't implement such a scene.

Edit: To osena, you can't cry in your occupation, but that doesn't mean you don't cry into your pillow at night.

Over the death of a sibling or a loved one? Yeah, no problems.

I have no opinion on the matter myself but it certainly worked in Lost Odyssey.

This scene is quite long, so your might want to just watch about 3/4 of the way through, but it is the only time I can remember ever being moved to the point of tears in a video game. The whole game was like that to be honest.

Kaim is one of the more "bad ass" video game characters I have known up until around that point, and he pulled it off.

My Dalish elf needed to bawl when Tamlen showed up at camp all corrupted and she was forced to kill him. "Always loved you." *sob*

However, my Shep is also a soul surviver, but she doesn't cry, damnit. She punches things.

While I had initially thought to laugh off the idea. I suppose there is no harm to EmoHawk. Stupid, mind you but whatever. I would rather hey not waste time writing dialogue so Hawke/Shepard can bawl on cue. Imagine the Suicide Mission if Shepard kept crying through it.

Well, it would be hilarious.

It's "stupid" to cry if, say, your sibling dies?

Have it as an offset button like the paragon/renegade prompts. You could add other actions too.

you make a good point, but that's after receiving training on how to be an effective soldier/leader. not as some dude/chick who's home just got destroyed by horrific monsters and who's little brother/sister just got smooshed by an ogre in front of your face.

also, why do you hate punctuation?

Actually the production cost of games is heavly dependant of what kind of game you make, some genre`s cost more then others, one exsample is games with alot of voicework. And usually the more money you invest in a game the better it should become.

Especially since we're getting a voiced hero now, I would like to see her/him show emotions, crying at appropriate times included, but I think an option to push a button and cry would cheapen the emotional impact of the scene. I could see it on the dialogue wheel now (break down and cry), (do nothing)

Meh. Personally I think they overdid the 'crying technology' in ME2 just a hair. Sure, Shep didn't cry but nearly everyone else did. (Even Tali, though you couldn't see her tears)

I hope ... I hope you don't think Tali crying, of all of them, was inappropriate. Because dang, dude. Everyone else, whatever (although all of them were certainly in a situation where I thought crying was a pretty reasonable reaction), but Tali's moment to cry ... it really just doesn't get more appropriate than that.

That said, I can settle for an epic sadface when appropriate. I don't think crying would be bad, mind you, but I don't expect it because all the boys anxious about their masculinity would whine that their GRR MANLY MAN Hawke would never cry, not even a single manly tear (which is my favorite way to cry, personally).

Yes, real men would be back to work that very day!

Jesting aside, you are putting words in my mouth. I said the feature was stupid, not the action. Crying if warranted would not only suffice but be encouraged. Having dialogue options to cry and/or whine on cue would be where the "stupid" part comes in.

I really LOVE your avatar!

Also I do like the idea of being able to cry on occasion. Your charactor wouldn't have to be racked with sobs or anything but a tear or two on the cheek would be nice.

And I don't want that option sorry

Chuck is eternal and omnipresent you heretic! You know why the Maker is gone? He angered Chuck and went into hiding. Except one cannot hide from Chuck Norris, so he is now stuffed in his locker with a divine wedgie.

And yes to manly tears. It's an option dammit.
The insecury sissies who are afraid of that option don't need to select it. A REAL man is not afraid of his emotions.

I'm not really sure if it would add anything to the game. Sometimes holding back tears is more emotionally powerful than actually crying anyway.

Agreed on both points. Sure, they could've just made a 'Cry/Sad Panda' intent icon for those who want to pick such options, but I can understand BW for not doing it all the same.
