Yeah, I don't mind if it's well done and an optional scene, but this sort of thing doesn't work in a video game the way it does in a movie. A video game protagonist and the protagonist in a movie are not the same sort of character, and if you start having the video game protagonist express emotions in certain ways, you're going to start having issues with depriving the player of agency.
One of the better (I thought) scenes in ME was when my Shepard got frustrated when the council would do nothing about the Reaper threat and punched that defenseless locker, then Kaiden came up to comfort her (sort of). It struck me as suitable. So I think it CAN be done, and done well, but I'm not sure it's worth it just to have Hawke show some tears. It needs to otherwise be a part of what's going on.
