You could just role play and pretend Hawke cries in his/her own time. After all, he/she still needs to escort his/her mother and sister/brother to Kirkwall, if he/she breaks down, what would that make them look like? Perhaps you could pretend Hawke cried after Flemeth left. You don't actually have to see it.

Here's a friendly reminder to all you who think that crying is just for babies and emos.

I don't cry, so... I don't really want my character to when they are supposed to be stronger than me.

That said, I would understand if Hawke cried when his/her sister/brother dies. That is just normal.

We do try to avoid crying for several reasons - one of which is, honestly, it's hard to make tears that look half-decent when you have the ability to build a custom face. Are there moments in DA2 where it might be appropriate? Certainly, but generally speaking, we try to convey the tone with FaceFX, camera distances, etc. On that note, though, getting tears that look good is pretty high on my own personal wishlist, but it's difficult to use when you have custom faces.

Could do a scene I suppose where Hawke is leaning over a fallen comrade/loved one and weeping as the camera looks at them from above and slowly zooms out! No tears necessary for something like that. :P

Edit: Then you could add the usual rainstorm and thundering for the ambience... Rofl.

Don't ever give up custom faces for the sake of working tear ducts. It will just make me cry. Posted Image

With Silent Lucidity by Queensryche playing in the background. I like this idea.

No, seriously, I do. I long for us to do an IP where we can use all sorts of classic rock for the soundtrack.

And I've contributed to bringing this off-topic.

When I am an extremely wealthy venture capitalist, I will help you make this happen.  Just so you know though, the inspiration for the combat system will be part of the contract.

To Laidlaw, Gaider and the EA brass: I would buy this game.

Why does the face being custom matter?

Because if you wanted the tears to drip down the cheeks, (ME2 Style) you'd need to know the shape of them. Since you can edit the shape of your face, it creates problems. (Like tears dripping in midair where they think your face should be)

I would assume it would have something to do with the tear tracking the facial contour, basically the problem would be keeping the tear tracking on any facial shape.
