Mage robes because Hawke was a mage in that trailer. I think they're doing more than robes though for mages and have more armor-like things.
Well I wouldn't classify them as robes, I would classify it more like "light armor" then anything else.
But yeah mage gear. No one knows the exact name of it...yet.

Hmm then if he is a mage and I have the Staff of Parthenon will I still be able to mix spells and melee?
Your mage will be able to attack in melee with his staff, yes.

It's mage armor. Warrior armor is more bulky and has more plates. There's a screenshot of all the Hawkes of both genders in their various 'iconic' armors.

Trailer characters tend to be the Canons. Plus it would make sense since the Hakwe family seems to have many mages in it (Hawke's sister, Father, Male Mage warden from origins (Somehow), and most likly more) and they also have a family staff "Staff of Parthalan" in which Hawke uses in the trailers and the Dragon Age 2 Logoishmaeltheforsaken wrote...
Canon. And there isn't really a "canon Hawke," any more than there was a "canon Warden," which is to say, not at all.

If you set up your attributes the right way then yes you can have a "trailer" hawke. But remember trailer hawke got his ass kicked in close combat.. So few people remember this.
Stupid trailer hawke, swinging his staff around when he should have been blasting that qunari..

Yes, I remember but his eyes did glow red, and that's awesome. No but to be honest that's how I like to play alot, balance magic and melee I was an Arcane Warrior in Orgins. Plus I really like his outfit (god I am like a woman when it comes to video game outfits)

Uh oh prepare to be flamed by angry feminists.
All joking aside. Mage hawkes outfit does look really cool.. I just want cool looking robes in general.
I'm not really that into armor..

Oh god not the feminists!
But yea cool looking robes are sweet, like when you have cool armor you are like this is cool, but with robes you get the whole like flowing kinda look with like a swag walk on. My personal favorite is like robes with mixed with armor, that's why I love the new look. Bioware knows whats awesome!

I know what you mean. I went Templar in Origins just so I could wear that beautiful, beautiful armor they wear. Being a lyrium addicted zealot has no downsides when you look that good. =p
