It all started when I was playing my Infiltrator. I was going around
cloaking and instead of sniping people from a far, I decided to run up
to them and punch them to death. After I completed the mission without
firing a single shot and taking out all of my enemies with just my bare
hands, the thought came to me: What if there were melee weapons in Mass
Effect?
It would be awesome to be able to attack from a distance
with your gun, then if they get too close, draw out your knife or some
other form of close-combat weapon and finish them off stylishly instead
of using using your fists.
I don't know if a thread like this has
been started yet, but what do you all think of the idea of
incorporating melee weapons in Mass Effect 3?
Sound off here!

I'd rather just have soldiers use intricate martial arts combos.

I don't want lightsabers or laser swords or anything, but I think having some sort of futuristic combat knife could be cool. We do know they exist, because that Turian was trying to smuggle one into the citadel.

Been started, argued to death, and buried a few times. Search function is your friend.

This is a refreshing idea.*
*Sadly I don't know if it's possible to link search results, just punch in 'melee' into the Mass Effect General Discussion section and enjoy the show.

I'd love to see them myself. Taking out the enemy with the Elbow of Ultimate Doom is a little silly.
They do exist in the universe. Morinth had dueling swords in her apt. I'd love to get my hands on. And Tali had that knife strapped to her boot for a few games now.

I think Bioware won't go for melee weapons for Mass Effect. They'd say, "If you want a squad based rpg/adventure with lots of melee weapons with a great story line, relationships, upgrades, DLC, good/evil decision, then play Dragon Age"
But honestly, we can already upgrade melee, and they even included an achievement to make it a bit of a challenge, lets leave melee to the medieval games.

This is a ceremonial item of his people, not a fifteen centimeter serrated blade. You are all racists!
Any way, I would be happy if there was just the option to whack your opponents with your weapons, just on command (otherwise like in ME1), because let's face it, getting an elbow to the face is likely less damaging than getting the stock of an Assault Rifle in your face.
Other than that, a nice combat knife and inventive uses throughout cutscenes would be awesome, maybe even a quickevent knife-fight versus a boss, just to get something different once in a while, like in LotSb.
Anything else though is unfeasable.

I suggested a biotic punch a long while back, it was pretty mixed what people thought of it. So want it some don't, for me I prefer martial arts inspired moves rather than weapons for melee
