Haestrom. The Geth Colossus and the "omg the sun melts your shields!" thing was pissing me off so, in my annoyance, I whipped out the M-920 Cain and used it to incinerate the Colossus where it stood. My first thought upon seeing that wonderous nuclear explosion? "MY GOD, IT'S FULL OF STARS!"

What was your first thought when you used this wonderous weapon?

For additional discussion, what was your favorite weapon in ME2? (I'm also in love with the M-98 Widow)

Yep, I get the feeling a good percentage of people used it a little too close!  I totally underestimated the size of that mushroom cloud! :P

I think this comic sums up my first experience really well.

On my current Insanity run (Engineer) I'd have to say that my favourite weapon is the Tempest with Warp Ammo. :)

Well, by the time I actually used the Cain I had both read the entry on it and headshotted a YMIR Mech so I wasn't especially wowed.

I also don't use Heavy weapons hardly at all. Even when I played on hardcore I just used my Widow and my teammates.

I'm kind of in the same boat, I always find myself misering up the heavy weapon ammo (and I think this is actually a design fault in ME2). Which is a pity, since whenever I gather the balls to use either the Blackstorm or (in a few specific missions) the Cain, it's generally a rather enjoyable experience. Blackstorm for the tactical impact and the pretty effect and Cain for the "take THAT!" feeling. :P

The Cain is always a sight to behold. I can only imagine how cool it would be to outfit the Widow with High Explosive Rounds and the headsplat enemies with big explosions all of the place like a mini-cain. Ever since I fired the Cain the first time I have been longing for High Explosive Rounds again ...

The first time I used The Cain was in battle with a gamer's fiercest and most annoying enemy. The wall two inches in front of me.

Damn my triggerhappy nature. Damn it!

I spent about thirty seconds with my jaw on the floor before going "MAN, I want one of these!"

First time I used it, was against Thresher Maw. Reaction was. "What the f*** just happened?"

Reading what weapons do before using them is such boring stuff. :D I think I read the words nuclear and mushroom from the description and nothing else. :P

In my last playthrough I tryied to nuke Vasir to death, but for my surprise, it takes only half of her barrier.

if you like the Cain you need to try out the following:

1) get an infiltrator
2) get the widow sniper rifle
3) get a heavy mech
4) strip it of shields and armour and damage it slightly
5) use cloak and line up a head shot (and make sure you shot its head off)
6) run ...
7) look back

ideally area: Just before you 'meet' Fade or in an iirc Blue Sun base (the one with the emergency beacon ... not 100% sure so). But any scenario with a heavy mech will do ...

Disclaimer:
I don't really know if you can pull that off with another sniper rifle or an other weapon. The only times it seemed to have happened was when I was on an infiltrator and I had the widow. Even so I tend to aim for the head even without a sniper scope. Granted it was usually only then that I tried it on purpose.

The first time I fired the Cain off and saw the explosion I said, "Dear God I hope I wasn't standing too close..." Whole screen lit up.

I've read on the forums that Scions are annoying (delayed European release ftw), so I blasted it to Hell when I have first encountered it. All I have managed to accomplish that I was left without a heavy weapon against the Scion duo and the Praetorian.

It built character.

I think it is enough that the killing shot is a headshot, regardless of what weapon you use.

"Hmmm, cool stuff!"

I just wish it had a better explosion animation, I get the "almost there" feeling for this weapon, it only needs a little more "OOMPH"!

The only time I was really glad I had the Cain was on Garrus' loyalty mission, as a Vanguard. The bit in the warehouse where there are two heavy mechs at once - I had Garrus and Thane with me, and I was a Vanguard, so only Garrus had a reliable way of taking down its shields. I couldn't be bothered whittling them down, so I whipped out my Cain, and BOOM. No more mechs.

The only time I really wished I hadn't used the Cain was when I one-shotted the Thresher Maw with it. It made the whole fight a bit anticlimactic.

My favourite weapons are the Vindicator Assault Rifle and the Locust SMG.

Could well be ...

I just know  that I did kill shots that were (as far as I could tell) head shots (with a sniper rifle or pistol). but just didn't shoot the head itself off. Which had a significantly different effect to when the kill shot actually took the head off ...
