What is the best Second specialization for Oghren (in Origins), considering using him as off tank / DPS.

Champion is funniest. Templar can be surprisingly good. I think most of the hardcore go for Reaver.

I never give second specialisation to anyone except my main character, but in Awakening I give him Champion so he can interrupt overwhelm attacks.

Why? Self imposed handicap?

Leliana and Zevran can't have all of their rogue talents maxed, it is pointless to take another, this is mostly true for every other party member, and I play on nightmare with turned off party who is there to heal and boost my character. At the end everyone can have a weapon school, class specific talents and one specialisation at full. Leftover points go to melee archery and two handed training.

Specializations still give boosts by just picking them.

It does give a few bonuses to attributes and some other minor bonuses, but I don't care much about those to pick them just to never put any point to those specialisations.

I always like Champion for Oghren. Shouting and Screaming in combat just suits him.

I go with Champion, Rally and Superiority are too clutch to not use.

Champion has the most benefit but reaver fits his persona best, imo. Templar would be just weird.

I don't see why it would be an issue for a dwarf. They don't become mages and they all get a small magic resist... Templar just builds on this. Obviously Alistair showed him some new battle tricks, HE HE 'belch'.

Reaver.

You seem to be in the minority. Why Reaver if I may ask?
More comments on Templars welcomed too.

I liked the irony of a dwarf being a templar. That it turned out to be a good fit was just icing on the cake. Holy site is also one of the best ways a warrior can cc. Cleanse comes in handy, but Oghren gets started on the second spec for it to be invaluable.

Champion or Templar, depending on how your other tanks are built/what kind of playstyle you use (one warrior or two). For an off-tank I'd probably go Templar.

If worthy of note, the other tank / DPS is probably going to be Shale (her wit is too good).

Shale & Oghren? I think I can honestly said I've never tried that combo... I assume Shale is the tank, so therefore Templar would be the best choice.

P.s.

Keep Shale in rock form most the time for the best mix of defence/ offence and just change her to stone form to fight big nastiness.

I honestly never tried Stone Form, seems wasteful to let Shale be a statue (again!) and not be tanking or doing damage. Why is it good? Any good Tactic setups?

It's a huge buff for mages especially. Shale in Statue form with three mages basically equals pure pwnage of the game.

Please correct me if I'm wrong but as I understand it, you are an SS (magic). Normal tanking will not work because you will be generating so much threat... therefore the basic attack plan is to nuke the bugger before you run out of mana/ life. IF the above is correct then statue Shale will increase your out put and still offer some tanking protection (I assume you will place her in front of the target).

Interesting...should I use Oghren as off tank [main when Shale goes Stone] or Wynne for 3 Mage DPS? My Morrigan is mostly a disabler SS/SH, I am mostly a nuker SS/SH. Dunno Wynne's 2nd spec but for story, it won't be Blood Mage.

If you listen to the story behind Wynne then blood mage makes a lot of Sense... is she really possessed by a good spirit or is it an act/ denial, i.e. me thinks the lady does protests too much!

Ok, back on topic now and I think you should just let the dwarf do what he does second best (first is drink)… being a nuke requires a lot of micromanagement.

BTW, I have the Knight Commander's Plate and two The Spellward already [one is for me]. That would make a Templar Oghren 80% Spell Resist right of the bat. Guess pump Strength until 40 or so then Dex all the way, huh?
