I've just completed the game for the first time and, as always Bioware, it was awesome! I can see myself playing through this game a few times to get to know the game engine and character builds a little better.
I'm on the PS3 and unlike the PC games I've played in the past the only options to mod your game seem to be via the DLC. Given that I only paid £7 for this game (pre-owned) a lot of this content seems pretty pricey! Are there any links to reviews of the content to see whether it's worth spending the extra cash?
Thanks
DLC - worth it?

Generally speaking, most of it is missable. But here's my highly biased opinions
Stone Prisoner: Far and away the best DLC. Good content, decent items and Shale (who's just great)
Warden's Keep: Story is fine, if a litle short. But the real reason you'd want it is for The vendors, storage chest and bonus items. The 'blood' abilities you pick up are alright, but not game changing.
Return to Ostragar: A little lackluster overall. Some nice but very brief scenes sandwiched between much filler. But some very good items drop in this that scale based on the level you are when doing it. (You can use the vendors/chest in Warden's keep to 'adjust' the level of these items later on, which is handy) If you do get this pack, be sure to bring Wynne and Alistair (or Loghain) for dialogue. They are the only ones with new lines. Playthrough would be absolutely terrible if you didn't bring them.
Leliana's Song: Good story...except for that it completely contradicts what Leliana tells you in Origins. But its framed as a highly embellished tale the bard is telling, so it works. Very nice suit of leather from this. One of the best there is.
Witch Hunt: I have a hard time reccomending this one. A few good items but mostly padded out with filler content. Some funny bits of dialogue but not enough to warrant the price unless you're being a completionist.
Golems & Darkspawn Chronicles: Haven't played either of these directly, but haven't heard anyone raving about them either.
Feastday gifts: Meh. You shouldn't have any trouble with maxing most of your companion's loyalty. Some funny jokes but entirely skippable.

Thanks for the info. I'll probably avoid buying the DLC and keep an eye out for copies of the game with Awakening and a code for Shale.

I mostly just wonder about missing out on importing to DA2 (particularly in regards to Witch Hunt.) - I already have Awakening + Stone prisoner, but the DLC just seem lackluster for the price.
I may bend if it turns out that Witch Hunt has any real effect on DA2.

The stone prisoner and warden's keep are entirely worth it, in my view. RtO was a tragic missed opportunity, but personally, I'd still buy it. I'm not sure I can say it's worth it, though. It depends on how you define 'worth it.' For the price of a hamburger, I consider it worth it for a couple of nice moments, a very small amount of new dialogue, and my favorite armor in the game.

If we focus solely on the dlc that expands the main story, (or fills in gaps)...
Warden's Keep: Was well worth the play through. Unfortunately, when BioWare said you get your own keep, they did not mention it would only be the outside of the keep. Once you complete the overall tasks, you are very much rewarded for your efforts. Its worth the play through.
Return to Ostragar: Was also a great expanded quest, which fleshes out the beginning of the game. Upon finishing this particular quest, you get nicely rewarded for your time and effort. Great theatrical moments in this dlc.
Leliana's Song: Was an okay side quest (prequel) to "Dragon Age: Origins". Unfortunately, your time and effort is not rewarded very well. Instead of getting gear in which is unique to Leliana, (clothes seen in DAO's Sacred Ashes trailer), you are rewarded with rehashed items in which a modder could devise. Other words, BioWare just repainted and made new stats for clothes already present in game. Its a fun play through, but you don't get anything uniquely designed for Leliana.
Remember, when you playout this quest, the ending is going to be a cliff hanger. If you want to know what happens at the end-end, you will need to finish it in the main game. Its a prequel. Events in the main game brings Leliana's song to a full circle.
Witch Hunt: Out of all the dlc that expands upon the main game, "Witch Hunt" had absolutely no meaning behind its existence. BioWare advertised this to be a quest to learn about what happened to Morrigan, but the end result was not learning a damn thing about what happened to Morrigan. *shrugs* Even though the ending felt like a hint to events that will take place in "Dragon Age II", I am starting to become skeptic over what was really meant by this end-quest.
The only dlc unrelated to the main quest I played...
The Stone Prisoner: I don't know. It was a very quick play through. If you were to compare the dlc's size to the others, "Stone Prisoner" could have been a side-quest on the Chantary boards. Unless you are getting tired of the main characters, I would and would not bother with playing out this quest. I had mixed impressions from "The Stone Prisoner". When you finally get Shale into your group, he may feel like a character out of place. It was a fun ten minute play through, but the new character was not all that important.
If you have plans on buying the dlc, (outside of the Ultimate Edition), I only suggest the top three on my list. When you think about the overall cost to buy them separately, I would recommend that you hold onto your money. As a result of the dlc and other things, I will not be buying "Dragon Age II" when its released.

I have played all the DLC's.
If you are looking for some fun and challenging battles, then Golems of Amgarrak is definitely worth it.
Leliana's Song has an interesting story.
The Darkspawn Chronicles is only battle, no dialogues, nothing to discover - nothing which keeps one captivated - I found it rather boring.

I got everything except Darkspawn Chronicles. Of them all in order of what I liked best to less
Stone Prisoner: Adds Shale, some neat items and an interesting puzzle to work on to reach the conclusion (if that's the route you take to finish it). Playthrough is short but Shale is a fun companion. I recommend bringing the NPC into the Deep Roads with you to learn more about the golem's story from Caridin.
Wardens Keep: A nice suit of armor obtained, and a chest to store all your gear in that you aren't ready to sell yet maybe. (I didn't know stashing things in it upgrades it as you level up but nice!). The potion with the abilities is rather lackluster. All in all, it's a good DLC.
Leliana's Song: A nice fun prequel allowing us a glimpse into Leliana's past. How much of it is truth and how much embellishment is for the player to decide. The armor you get from it may look like other armor in the game but the stats are decent and its wearable by anyone in the party. It makes a nice twink item for a starting player (unless you happen to be a mage). The characters are engaging and I really felt I cared about them despite the short amount of time I spent playing it. (About an hour or so).
Return to Ostagar: Is the final DLC I have actually played through. The armor is decent and Wynne, Alistair (or Loghain) get additional dialogue but for me the whole thing played like a bad retcon fanfic changing the perception of the battle's outcome and the characterizations of the principle players. From Cougar Wynne and Alistair's inappropriate remarks to Zevran's inexplicable dislike of a funeral for someone in the DLC, it left a bad taste in my mouth. Even though I have it, my PC's rarely go there in my games now. I play on PC and have more than enough armor mods I don't need the one you get there.
For the rest, I haven't played Golems of Amgarak but I would like to with one of my characters before DA2 and I haven't played Witch Hunt (though for many it was a disappointment, I can't say one way or the other). Feast day allowed me to finally see the hostile conversation with Alistair. Beyond toying with the approval ratings, it has no other value I can see.
Darkspawn Chronicles, IMO is a complete waste of money as it happens in an Alternate Reality and has no connection at all to the main game. It is the only DLC I didn't plunk down money for. I think you get a new weapon in the main game for playing it. I don't like hack and slash but if that's your cup of tea I guess you would enjoy it.
