Note to Game.co.uk Pre-Orderers

The Lion of Orlais shield and the Fadeshear sword will be oonly available to players who pre-order Dragon Age II before launch. They are included in the Signature Edition.
So unless I'm not mistaken they are attached to signature edition key.

Let's say game.co.uk tries to charge my credit card so they can send DAII SE and they fail to do so. What do they do next?
a) do they let me change my credit card details and try again? OR

The last time that happened to me (it was when Gears of War 2 came out) they cancelled the order because they were unable to get the funds (my card had just expired and I had forgotten to update the pre-order).

[/quote]
On ps3 version as long as u sign into the dragon age servers before march 2012 u get the pre-order stuff, i dont think individual shop promotions count, just the sword & shield

Thanks. I thought so. I'll need to make sure my CC details are correct because its expiration date has been extended recently.

In my experience with these things, if
something is wrong most websites will cancel your order there and then,
as opposed to actually contacting you to resolve the problem.
Btw, shopto.net allows you to change CC details in case of unsuccessful payment.. Up to 3 times I think. But shopto.net's delivery costs increased drastically within the last few days (signed delivery increased from £4.80 to £8.00

I also assumed they would be in the box until he confirmed they are not yesterday.

I'm not too bothered about the sword & shield. It's the Black Emporium I'm more concerned about with the Signiature Edition. If Game somehow manage to skimp out on that as well I would not be happy. Oddly enough I've always had a good history with Game. The only oddity being that, in recent years, whenever I purchase something there's always no points on my loyalty card despite me not having used any of the points in donkeys years. I suspect some employees may be skimming them off when they scan things and consequently normaly use other traders. But I've never had stuff I ordered or purchased from Game be late or incorrect.

You'd think he would update that thread with more relevant information. Besides they are still offering the incentives.. just not with the signature, which irritates the hell out of me. While Amazon are not offering it at all.
Yeah, at least game.co.uk offers pre-order bonuses for normal editions of DA2.
Anyway, I've just contacted game.co.uk about pre-order incentives for DA2 SE.
According to the following website (Official EU Dragon Age 2 website), Game is one of the promoted stores where you can buy Dragon Age 2. What's more, it clearly states
so one could just wonder why game.co.uk wouldn't want to offer the same pre-order incentives for DA2 SE buyers...*If you pre-ordered the BioWare Signature Edition prior to January 12, 2011 you will also receive this bonus content.

AFAIK, 'The Black Emporium' works the same way as 'The Stone Prisoner' DLC did for DA:O, i.e. A code to unlock The Black Emporium content is in the box with all NEW (not used) Dragon Age 2s. In other words, tBE isn't pre-order bonus, it's part of the so-called EA's 10$ project :-)

That's the impression I got. A "free DLC" to introduce you to the concept of DLC & teach you how to download them. I'll also be interested to see how the appearance changing mirror works with custom content. I suspect it boots you back to the character creator (appearance) bit but it might ignore overrides with custom models in them.

Lol
If the appearance changing mirror does just boot them back to Character Creator Screen, and it probably does, then its basically calling a single function, and they call it extra content. Lol
Not saying there is anything wrong with doing that, but it is interesting how such a little tiny tad bit of code, can be a money maker.

Don't like Game either as I had a similar story with them - they have very bad customer service and seem to have a preferential treatement for their UK customers passing over those who buy from them abroad. I now buy from Amazon.co.uk - it's faster, cheaper and more reliable. Or from Steam.
Same here. Also they don't do refunds once you open the game. Their prices are too high and they just ultimately suck. They should rename themselves to SUCK and their website to SUCK.co.uk, so I simply left a review of their company on some website urging people to buy elsewhere and moved on.
HMV is pretty good though. They do refunds and game insurance but I generally buy all games from Amazon.co.uk now.

uh, the mirror is one item available at the emporium. And they only charge for it if you buy the game second-hand. So i don't really see your point.

Additionally, you also get a Mabari and a shop that upgrades throughout teh story, probabyl with some rather nice lewt. The Black Emporium isn't just the Mirror, though it is a nice perk.

Edit: Anyone know if Play.com are updating those who pre-ordered the signature edition with that amulet of ashes bonus? As it stands I've got the sig edition pre-ordered twice and I'm not getting the pre-order bonuses with either of them. Nice, /surelyitshouldbeeasierthanthis.

My comment was meant more in general,
Eg - a Game Company charging £9.99 for character re-name tokens to change your characters name,
Server Transfer tokens, etc
Alot of these sorts of things are just single lines of code or queries.
Or can be quantified down to the point where all it is that 'gives' you the perk, is a 1 appearing beside your name/account in a database.
Alot of the actual content of the 'perks' or 'bonuses' are actually already embedded in the original release of games etc.
eg - Diablo 1 - Had graphics and sounds etc that were then re-used in the (un)official expansion by Sierra, already on the game disc. etc
You never know, the graphics, and npc's models of the bonus content, might be on the DA2 disc, just not accessible unless you have the 'rights' to get access to it.
I wasnt trying to say that we are paying too much for the content, or the content was trash.
Im just saying that it is interesting that we pay money, and the 'actual' content that we get, might be a single line of code, that 'grants' access to content.
Infact, the actual amount of code required to grant access to the bonus content, might even be less than this post I have made now??

Incorrect. DLC is developed outside of the game, and was never included on the actual disc. The content of the DLC is actually added to the game -after- the fact. I am not sure how it is done, but DLC is NOT on the vanilla game disc, and was never, nor will ever be n the actual game disc as it ships; it is extra content that is made separately from the vanilla game that goes through it's own processes before being approved to be added to the game.
There is no magical 'access granted' code that gives you access to content. That is not how DLC works, nor how DLC will ever really work unless a developer wants to become the ire and endure the hatred of its former fans raeging because they have to pay extra money for content already on the disc. There is no magical thing to grant access to it; if it wasn't DLC....
It wouldn't exist at all.
As for code, the actual line of code for the Black Emporium, Mabari, and Shops are huge. I would estimate at around 16422 lines and 800 columns of code, roughly, for all of that content, some of which will include animation, voice acting, lines and branches of dialogue, shop merchandice code that also means a restocking code, and none of it wll be a magical
S.H.O.D.A.N: ACCESS GRANTED
Code.
[Note: I am not a code monkey, but I do have a bit more insight than some on how coding works, so I could be wrong about the exact number; feel free to correct me at anytime.]
I apologize if this comes off as scathing, but it bothers me that people think the way you do but don't know what actually goes on behind the scene's, despite devs giving some key insight into the processes behind it. We'll never know precisely how it works, but they've given enough insight to hint and tell that no, it isn't what we think it is, and no, it was never on the disc in the first place and wouldn't exist otherwise.

Just to make a note, sometimes part of the DLC is included on the disc. For example, DAO installs files for Shale with the basic game. This can pretty-much be seen in the same light as 'cut content' that exists on game discs. The DLC can be seen to thus 'complete' the cut content and restore it to working function. Other things, of course, are completely fresh and have nothing on the disc.
