Alot of the actual content of the 'perks' or 'bonuses' are actually already embedded in the original release of games etc.

This is still true, for some games.

Incorrect. DLC is developed outside of the game, and was never included on the actual disc. The content of the DLC is actually added to the game -after- the fact. I am not sure how it is done, but DLC is NOT on the vanilla game disc, and was never, nor will ever be n the actual game disc as it ships; it is extra content that is made separately from the vanilla game that goes through it's own processes before being approved to be added to the game.

No one can prove this correct or incorrect until the game is actually released. And even then, I bet if you were to extract models, sounds and such from the game files, you would find content that is not used in the final release of the game.

Final Fantasy X-2 is one such example of this.

The Vanilla FFX-2 Game disc shipped with the content, sounds+animations, and models of the additional content that was released in the International Version + Last Mission pack. Using model extracting software, you are able to view it. Using the content, might even be possible with game hacking.

My comment was meant more in general

Eg - a Game Company charging £9.99 for character re-name tokens to change your characters name,

Server Transfer tokens, etc

Alot of these sorts of things are just single lines of code or queries.

Or can be quantified down to the point where all it is that 'gives' you the perk, is a 1 appearing beside your name/account in a database.

Alot of people are choosing to ignore this bit of my comment.

It doesnt take hundreds of man-hours, or hundreds of lines of code, to make a character rename token etc.

Something relatively simple, and potentially 3-4 lines of code, can make a company lots of money.

And many of these things are sold as perks.

Most of this applies to MMO games,

The perk content needs to be distributed with the vanilla game, otherwise the other players wouldnt be able to see 'your fabulous sword' etc. So from this respect, purchasing of a perk, is simply purchasing a database update query, that enables your account to use the content.

I asked Game.co.uk whether they are going to offer pre-order incentives for DA2 SE buyers or not.

I got this response:

Hi Aurimas,

Thank you for your email.

I can confirm that unfortunately you will not receive a code with the signature edition of this game. However we are issuing codes with the standard edition.

I apologise for any inconvenience.

Regards,

It seems that these pre-order incentives are some kind of really bad joke for the most Europeans.
Some shops offer sword & shield for the standard edition only while other shops don't offer any bonuses at all :-/

And the biggest joke is that GAME.co.uk is one of the promoted shops on the official website... EU website...

I know it is - that's actually the only reason I pre-ordered from them. I was going to order with Amazon, but noticed that they weren't on the list so I thougth goign with GAME would be safer for pre-order bonuses et al.

I'm almost tempted to pre-order another copy from a different retailer. Maybe EA. Then I get The Irons as well...

I'm sure BioWare would love you to do that.

---

If you want to show support for those of us missing out on the pre-order bonuses (even if you are getting them), despite BioWare saying everyone would get them, then please add this code to your signature.

You'll then have this snazzy banner to show that you support BioWare keeping their word (complete with a link to the post stating everyone would get it):

Not to mention that it was stated that they were included with the signature edition... and then a few days ago we were told they were not.

After all, why should we have to pre-order twice just to get the items we were origionally promised?

Just got my reply from Game as well containing the same bull****. Gotta love the "However we are issuing codes with the standard edition." line though. Right, as if I'd order another copy just for those items. Think I'll pass on that, already getting 2 Signature Editions.

I pre-ordered DA2 SE from Game.co.uk months ago, so not getting DLC just because Game.co.uk is being stupid with the codes is more then a little annoying, I'm just glad that the Black Emporium is done differently.

I've never had any problems pre-ordering with Game before, my only concern was that pre-orders from Game tend to come on the day or day before of release, others like Play.com tend to come earlier then that (I find personaily) but as DA2's DRM makes it so you can only play it on your countries day of release, it makes that concern kinda moot. Now I just have to be concerned with Game.co.uk running out of stock for the SE Posted Image

---UPDATE to my previous reply---
http://social.biowar...96942/3#5929611

So I asked GAME.co.uk why they don't offer preorder incentives for DA2 SE and I received the following reply:

"Hi Aurimas,

Thank you for your email.

We have currently received no word from the publisher with regards to us offering these preorder bonuses with the signature edition, this is always subject to change however and any developments will be reflected on our website.

If you have any further queries please don't hesitate to contact us.

That's quite strange. I thought Chris Priestly said he would discuss it with EU team :/

Heh. I wasn't actually going to pre-order another copy. ;). Tempted, but not tempted enough.

@AuriDUL: That is interesting. It seems that they may be in a similar situation to Amazon.uk. we had better get onto Bioware about this, as it seems to be something that can be easily rectified.

Yeah I tend to pre-order through Game when I want every little item as they tend to offer the most exclusives in the UK, however even having it pre-ordered at play.com as well isn't enough - they are in the same boat and havn't updated signature editions to include the pre-order bonus!

I'm finding this all funny in a weird way, I remember Europe getting messed around with DAO pre-release particularly in regards to that games collectors edition and whether we would get the complete version. I seem to remember it took months to get a final answer, and it was that we'd just have to miss out.

Hope this is an issue that can be corrected between the retailers and the marketing team.

I have confirmed that Game WILL be getting these items for Standard and Signature Edition. The error must be on the part of the person you spoke with. This has been confirmed by our EU team.

It really is a case of the left hand not knowing what the right is doing sometimes, I swear. See stuff like this happen far too often.

Basically because Game have the bonus items up for the standard edition there is no problem... Except we've been told different before? Not to mention it just doesn't seem right. I'm not exactly the biggest fan of bonus pre-order items, but it sort of detracts from the signature edition being a big thank you to loyal fans who pre-order early if it just means we get a different set of exclusive items to the norm.

It seems odd that all retailers would choose to package the pre-order bonuses exclusively with the standard edition unless it's the policy.

Edit: Well... Now I feel a bit daft. And very Ninja'd.

Thanks Chris.

Glad for everyone who ordered from Game. Now lets just try and tell Game that, and make sure they understand. Then we can try and set AmazonUK straight.

Well well well, this is good news indeed. Though I'll believe it when I actually have the sword and shield ingame. ^_ ^ Sent an email containing this to game, let's see what they have to say now. *cackles maniacally*
