Alot of the actual content of the 'perks' or 'bonuses' are actually already embedded in the original release of games etc.
This is still true, for some games.
Incorrect. DLC is developed outside of the game, and was never included on the actual disc. The content of the DLC is actually added to the game -after- the fact. I am not sure how it is done, but DLC is NOT on the vanilla game disc, and was never, nor will ever be n the actual game disc as it ships; it is extra content that is made separately from the vanilla game that goes through it's own processes before being approved to be added to the game.
No one can prove this correct or incorrect until the game is actually released. And even then, I bet if you were to extract models, sounds and such from the game files, you would find content that is not used in the final release of the game.
Final Fantasy X-2 is one such example of this.
The Vanilla FFX-2 Game disc shipped with the content, sounds+animations, and models of the additional content that was released in the International Version + Last Mission pack. Using model extracting software, you are able to view it. Using the content, might even be possible with game hacking.
My comment was meant more in general
Eg - a Game Company charging £9.99 for character re-name tokens to change your characters name,
Server Transfer tokens, etc
Alot of these sorts of things are just single lines of code or queries.
Or can be quantified down to the point where all it is that 'gives' you the perk, is a 1 appearing beside your name/account in a database.
Alot of people are choosing to ignore this bit of my comment.
It doesnt take hundreds of man-hours, or hundreds of lines of code, to make a character rename token etc.
Something relatively simple, and potentially 3-4 lines of code, can make a company lots of money.
And many of these things are sold as perks.
Most of this applies to MMO games,
The perk content needs to be distributed with the vanilla game, otherwise the other players wouldnt be able to see 'your fabulous sword' etc. So from this respect, purchasing of a perk, is simply purchasing a database update query, that enables your account to use the content.
