Ah,
ok.  Thanks for clarifying.  And I am sorry to hear about that.  I
don't know why Amazon.co.uk shouldn't have the same policy as
Amazon.com, and it is rather absurd for them not to participate.

It's obviously not just amazon.co.uk (other retailers are not offering it too) but they just happened to be the one there was already a topic about (and that I referred to in the PM).

Fair enough, but it is more egregious in the case of Amazon.co.uk since they are a part of a larger entity that is offering the promotion in other markets.

Wow, this is....disappointing to say the least. Wasn't the closed beta already happening? I mean, there's videos of it on youtube that have been around for days. I can't believe this was the original intent of the 02.01.11 cards - announcing the closed beta of a facebook game.

Are you serious? THIS is what they've come up with to explain the Feb 1, 2011 flier that was included in 'Awakening'? This is lame beyond words.

Who the hell announces facebook games on a leaflet in a full blown game expansion with the date of 01.02.2011? Do you guys understand that this isn't even a fb game announcement, it's its closed beta announcement of the game you've been, open beta testing? What do you ****ing expect me to think of such jokes? I am not one for complaining, but well EVEN bazaar was better than this. Seriously I don't understand marketing these days. Some sort of sick sick joke this is.

this.

A Facebook game? Good grief. Bioware's finally caught full blown EAIDS.

If this is the 'great news' for today, allow me to express my feelings about it:

Then again, there IS the possibility that we're just being teased and in a few hours they'll actually give us something worth all the hype that this date had going on.

...Right?

[notices Priestly posted this news on the 2.1.11 thread and closed it]

Wait... you were serious?
This is really the big 2.1.11 announcement?

No way.

Why so late of a release though? For those who will never receive a beta key, the only option is to play the game in March. When DA2 comes out. So that they miss out on the exclusive items offered via Legends.

At least Journey was available for everyone a month in advance, and everybody had the option to pursue the DLC items offered without having to participate in a beta. <_<

Nobody's unlocking them now, or at least if we are we don't know it. They haven't said how that happens; I'm assuming we won't know til the end of the beta period.

Don't get too excited about the game (As if anyone already was). You can only do 3 battles at a time, the loot drops are horrible and you can't upgrade the equipment of your companions. All you can do with your money is build your castle and have them make better and more potions faster.

To buy actual upgrade equipment, you have to pay REAL money to get credit to do so. After every battle, the two companions you choose will be unavailable for 2 to 4 hours, effectively limiting the number of battles you can do in one sitting at 3. That of course doesn't address the fact that visiting any location takes energy, which also recharges over time.

Of course, you can always use REAL money to buy more energy to do more encounters, but there's 0 point as you can't use any of your companions until they recharge. Of course, you can charge into battle alone and die every time if you like.

Finally, you can inexplicably visit the castles of all of your companions and your quest giver and lust after all of the crap they have. That's all you can do though, just visit. So, it's just a tease.

As soon as I unlock the items, I'm done with it.

Ugh. Honestly, I wouldn't mind a facebook game (I enjoyed the Assassin's Creed one, for instance), but I really don't like the sound of this one. Plus, trying to get us to use REAL MONEY on a freaking facebook game is just bs

Don't all Facebook games do that?  And isn't that why they universally suck?

Facebook games are nothing but cynical cashcows.

I couldn't imagine the old BioWare getting involved in shenanigans like this.

I don't recall Assassin Creed's game doing that - I didn't have to pay for anything on it.

This is indeed not the great news that many people expected. Putting the whole demo thing aside you could've at least released some trailer or gameplay footage or something ... considering it's slightly over a month before the release of the game...

People have blind hate for things. Not all Facebook games try to make you use real money

You guys, this probably isn't the 2.1.11 announcement. There probably isn't any 2.1.11 announcement. That was probably the initial release date plan for DA2. This is unrelated.

Sorry, missed a few words hence the edit.

What I meant to write was "unless youe retailer is explicitly offering it", then it's not included in the SE.

*shakes fist*
Had me all panicked for a moment. Was like ":O", then the edit came, and was like "". Now it's like "".

Whereas my reaction was more ":(". Trying to understand Amazon's logic there, to be honest. Do they think people are going to be all "screw this SE nonsense, gonna go order regular edition instead as well"?

Oh yeah, on topic...

Except that Chris Priestly closed down the 2.1.11 announcement speculation thread and linked to this one.

Nope Gameinformer (Someones had a link to it) stated that Bioware did have something special waiting for this date and it wasn't the DA2
