unfortunately is too close for recoloring to be considered anything BUT a recoloring.
It's either a simple recolor or it's not. In this case...it's not.
Respectfully I disagree. Not calling it "simple" simple is just leaving the same textures and changing color. We saw that with Thane.
This is just recoloring. not simple but not innovative.
An actual idea is when the outfit is changed in shape. Miranda had a suit skin tight, now she does not.
Changing some of the texture from leather to steel... or from steel to wood and changing the color... is recoloring. Is not adding anything new. Is just replacing a square that is made of cloth... by a square made out of steel. Yes it takes a couple of minutes more to do... but to be realistic it doesn't take that much brain work.
An example: When I was helping mod Rome Total War, we had two choices... since we didn't have money for it... we could either change the color of the soldier to make them look new... or actually change the shape and pieces of the armor.
A- Is called simply recoloring. Into falls:
Recoloring black wood for brown wood.
Or like Jacob... leaving the same shape and textures with just a different color stripe
B- Is called changing the shape.
If you have a shoulder plate...and add chainmail... thats different. Simplie braking the shoulder plate in 2 smaller shoulder plates is not redoing the design, is simply breaking one piece into two. Doesn't take much effort.
Changing the "textures" of Tali's armor doens't change the fact that they didn't came up with anything new... besides color and texture.
i guess my point is Shape. For something to be new... has to be a different shape.
breaking a square into 4 smaller squares is not inovation... is called being lazy if is bioware because they have financial backup. In the case of people doing it for free like me... is called being resourceful... but even then it still not as appealing.
Shape... thats all there is to it. Changing texture, and Color doesn't take new ideas. Changing Shape certainly does. Like Miranda. She went from Skin tight shape... to armored shape. Colors are of course relevant but only count if the shape has changed.
Example: You have a long sleve shirt and Blue jeans. aka tali
Now you have a short sleve shirt over your long sleve shirt... and your blue jeans changed to darker blue jeans.
Yes definitely the short sleve shirt wasn't there but is nothing new.
Adding a coat, changing to cargo pants, shorts... maybe adding knee pads... elbow protection. New stuff that has little shape in resemblence to the last clothing piece... counts... at least in making a mod be more appealing than the rest.
but Bioware knows people will buy it no matter what, so there is no forced incentive to actually spend more than a couple of minutes doing it. Changing the colors and texture from cloth to steel in rome total war takes.... 10 minutes at most. COming up with new designs actually takes a couple of days.
Miranda was a new design.... grunt and tali were just probably 10 minute haste work before cofee break.
