Why
are the DLC for Mass Effect 2 so expensive? Just to get all the DLC
missions and Master Thief, $40  won't cover it. I added them up
and even after buying 3200 points ($40) you are still something like 80
points short. This seems like a scam for one thing...making you buy a
lot of extra points that you can't or won't be able to use. I might not
be as bothered about that if it wasn't for how expensive the points
are. Heck, I only paid like $20 for the game itself. Not going to pay
$40 for some extra downloadable content.  While it may be "worth it" to some people, entertainment dollars are in short supply for many of us these days.
And worse, there is not bonus for buying more.  And no bonus it seems, for buying content for an older version of the game.  ME3 is now out.  You would think that ME2 stuff, like the game itslef, would start being reduced in price.  That's usually the procedure for products that are no longer the cutting edge.

It just seems very counter intuitive to pay over $40 bucks for some stuff to add to a game I bought for $20 and the Navy Exchange.

It's how they ensure the game stays profitable long after release. I don't have a problem with that per se...

What I do have a problem with is the fact that you have to buy points in completely arbitrary denominations of "points", when the pieces of DLC in question never add up to the denominations of our points balance.

You always end up with points left over, and I'm sure the psychology of most users is that if they have outstanding points they'll want to use them.

I'm also annoyed that big fans of the series can't just pay for a "Complete" DLC pack or a "Weapons" "Story" or "Appearance" pack. Like I wanted the hammerhead, shadowbroker, kasumi, arrival and overlord missions, but had no interest in the alternate appearance packs or weapon packs.

As it was I had to spend almost as much as I had on the game (I bought it new) to purchase each of these packs seperately.

BioWare / EA! I don't MIND paying for DLC!

I DO mind being ripped off through the use of cynical points initiatives and lack of flexible buying options.

I ALSO mind that buying all the DLC seperate almost doubles the price of the game I bought new.

I share your concerns.  I don't mind paying for DLC, and I did for this stuff, but I don't think I will do it again.  I have enjoyed the DLC stuff I bought, but it just isn't worth the price.  Especially when I bought the game for less than HALF of what I paid for the game.  In short, ME2 is yesterday's news.  ME3 is today's news.  So ME2 can be bought in the stores for about $20.  I paid $40 in DLC so far, but have left ovder points I ntend to add to a 560 point purchase to buy the Shadow Broker DLC.  Then I am done.  I just don't feel good about these purchases, as my gaming funds are limited, and so I usually have to wait for prices to drop.

I'm sure BioWare could care less about our concerns...they just pay attention to whether the stuff is selling.  In their view, our complaining is OK.  Our not buying is not.  Only when the stuff doesn't sell will they alter their prices so as to move product.
